"Her Side" by Maddie Ashman is an early release this year, but I am already almost certain it will be among my favorite albums of the year when December rolls around. This project is incredibly creative and full of passion, but most importantly it's just a lot of fun. In this release there is lots of experimentation with micro-tonal sounds, similar to her last ep, but executed very differently. While the last ep sounded off-putting in a good way, this one somehow manages to ... read more
I'm someone who has not really liked Motionless in White in the past, but this song hit for me finally. It's an incredibly satisfying feeling. The riff in this song is what does it for me, it could be pulled straight out of a Darkest Hour or Unearth song from the early 2000s. I also find the vocals to be much better than past material, they don't sound as much like they are trying to imitate butt rock as they did on the last album. I'm still a little 50/50 on the ... read more
This song is solid but it doesn't do it for me the way anything off of their debut album did.
Empty Hands is...ok. Surprisingly ok. I strongly disliked most of the singles leading up to this release so this album being ok was a very pleasant surprise for me. I do find it interesting that this album is in the yellow for being generic when I would consider some of its highlights less generic than Poppy's last album Negative Spaces. I believe that this really shows how much singles can dictate the reception of an album. Empty Hands had a ton of singles, and honestly all singles ... read more
I am probably the only human being on earth that actually prefers American Nervoso to Botch's biggest hit, We Are the Romans. While both albums are masterpieces and We Are the Romans undoubtedly has the more iconic vocal style the band would come to be known for, American Nervoso stands above it because of it's more chaotic nature. I like mathcore that feels unstructured on first listen but is secretly genius underneath the noise of everything, and that description fits this ... read more
I find it so childish when metalcore bands write tracks dedicated to "owning" the fans. "You don't know me, and I don't owe you" goes both ways, I dislike the new material, and I like discussing music, so I am going to talk about it, writing a whole whiney ass song about people not liking your new music when you willingly changed your sound and put it out there for people to judge is some weak shit. This is one of their worst new songs, because it has the boring ... read more
Metalcore fans are gonna hate me for this one, but remember, a 68 is a GOOD SCORE! I LIKED THE ALBUM! Poison the Well are an OG metalcore band, responsible for inspiring decades of music to come after them. You Come Before You is their second most popular album behind their debut: The Opposite of December. It is the third album of the bands career, and a foundational metalcore release. Every member of the band plays their part at a highly skilled level, and I absolutely love every part ... read more
Every once in a while, a song will release that feels iconic from the first time you hear it. We Were Never the Same is one of those songs. This album closer creates an intense atmosphere of longing and desperation, feelings that only get more intense as the song progresses. If the rest of the album keeps up the consistency of these singles, Converge has a potential magnum opus coming our way, an impressive feat for a band 30 years into their career.
I loooove Crowbar. But I can't listen to them because then I'll get fat! But they're soooooo good!
I'm not opposed to either nu-metal or deathcore, but combining the two is almost certain to lead to disaster. The vocalist of Paleface Swiss is capable of good vocals, but on this ep the vocals were incredibly whiney. The deathcore bits are very boring chuggy sections, and the nu metal parts sure are nu metal(derogatory). Despite not really being a fan of Paleface Swiss in the first place, I was still very disappointed by this release.

Impending Doom were my first deathcore band. I discovered them through their collab with Demon Hunter vocalist Ryan Clark on the song My Light Unseen. When I listened to their other stuff, I was shocked at how heavy it was, as at the time, Demon Hunter was the only metal band I had really gotten into. It took some time, but the band's material grew on me and eventually became a cornerstone for what made my music taste what it is today. Death Will Reign was always the album I listened ... read more
The song Smokin Meth showed up for me on Tidal and it intrigued me. The song was surprisingly a banger so I decided to check out the album. This is my first exposure to the genre psychobilly, and I actually kinda love it. It has punk type energy but it is some of the most hick sounding music you'll ever hear, and that combination ends up being quite charming. It can be a little repetitive at times, but the uniqueness of it makes the album overall a very fun experience. Every song is ... read more
The chicken nugget is stupid but the song is actaully quite a bit of fun. If this gets played at a party you know all the white boys are going crazy and one of them will be me.
Is this the tuffest album of 2025?
Obviously. Look, suck on my album doesn't sound good, but the lyrics are also pretty bad. Kill Karl also has a punchable face. These are the reasons I actually enjoyed the album. Many people take this seriously, but I am still fully convinced that this is satire parodying other alt metal acts like Falling In Reverse. It's so immature and the jokes themselves aren't what makes it funny, but the absolute absurdity of everything does. I saw ... read more
Abysmal dogshit(affectionate)
Poppy is a great artist, but these recent singles have all been very bland, which is the furthest thing from most of her work from the past. Not only are these very by the books alt metal, but they also do not have any energy behind them to make them good basic alt metal. I really hope that this is her last alt metal project so that she can evolve her sound into something more interesting with the next album
