RIP Brent Hinds, one of the greatest guitar players of all time. I know that before he died he had come to hate the music that he was making but I hope he at least realized that his art was appreciated by millions of people and could still value all that he had made.
Emperor of Sand is my favorite Mastodon album, and it is among my favorite albums of all time. This may be considered somewhat of a hot take among many fans of the band, as it is often viewed as one of the bands weaker projects. ... read more
Crazy ass riff and some fantastic songwriting to boot. Greyhaven are like the ETID of this generation, but they still stand out as distinct from their inspirations.
I'm not the biggest nu metal guy but every once in a while I'll hear a song like this and be like "wait maybe nu metal is the coolest thing ever actually."
This coming out less than a week after I discovered this band was a funny surprise. This was a fun song with a solid steady beath throughout that you can groove to. The vocal performance portrays a lot of emotion and is kinda over the top campy in a really good way.
I love The Devil Wears Prada's past work, but the direction they've been going just isn't for me. Leaning into this emo sound has produced some of their least memorable songs and has also lead to formulaic sound where every song has the same breakdown finisher. And don't get me wrong TDWP can still pull off some sick breakdowns but when the rest of the song is forgettable the breakdown also ends up forgotten when I don't return to the music. Genuinely happy for ... read more
Trintity has it's moments for sure but it can also get very corny at times and can often go for a much grander sound than it achieves. I hate complaining about clean vocals in metalcore because sometimes I feel like I can come off as elitist when doing so, but this album really struggles with making the clean vocals feel natural in the song alongside the heavy moments. The symphonic parts are another element that can hit or miss depending on how they are utilized, and unfortunately I did ... read more
I love Unprocessed and I don't hate Paleface Swiss but got damn the rapping part absolutely ruins the song. Why can't Unprocessed stick to their sound off of And Everything In Between, it was a very unique sound to them that left lots of room to continue to develop but they seem to want to try to shake things up much more than they need to imo.
It's an ok song. Bad Omens was one of the better acts blending pop with metal but their recent output has done the blend in a much less creative or interesting way. I hope that when their next album comes they can subvert this and prove their haters wrong but it seems that they are going to go down the more generic route.
This might actually be the worst song I've ever heard lmfao. The Popular Monster album sounds like Mozart in comparisson to this. Also I'm seeing some weird incel patterns with these two songs that weren't as prevelant in the last album afaik(I don't pay attention to fir lyrics they are too ass for my attention).
The Armed just dropped their best album since Untitled. The Future Is Here and Everything needs to be destroyed shook things up and took them in a different direction than the past three albums leading up to it, going for more of a noise rock and sometimes even a little jazzy sound. It is also their first release in 10 years to bring back the mathcore elements to their sound. Despite the changes, the band is still recognizeable as The Armed as the songwriting and tone is still distinctly ... read more
I have never been a huge fan of blessthefall, but I did enjoy Wake the Dead, so I decided to check out their most recent single here. If you are a fan of crabcore you'll be taken right back to the days when it was at its peak with this song, but unfortunately, that is my least favorite era of the genre.
This was an album I was really looking forward to, and while I did enjoy it, I have to admit that I am a little bit disappointed. Their last release, The Eternal Doom, was included within the album. This EP was a masterclass in experimental metalcore, there is nothing else out there that sounds like it did. The rest of the album has a few very experimental songs, but it feels a lot more safe than the previous release. Most of this release was dropped long before the album, and while you ... read more
Car Bomb are one of the best bands out there in the djent scene, and that certainly has not changed with their brand new EP, Tiles Whisper Dreams. The new release is as technical as ever, sometimes even becoming difficult to headbang to. The band still manages to write songs that stick with you despite how crazy they can be, an impressive balancing feat.
The instrumental is pretty much exactly what I want out of metalcore, that norma jean esque southern fried groovy dissonance. My only critism of this song is the mixing, the vocals are drowned out in the rest of the sound. If the vocals were turned up and clearer, this song would have gotten a 100 from me. Edit: after hearing this live it's a 100. I cannot wait to hear more of their new stuff.
This album has a couple bangers on it don't get me wrong, but this is Fit For a King's weakest album to date in my opinion. Fit For a King have been a pretty generic band for a while, and I am completely ok with that, as their material up to this point has been the best of that basic sound. On this album however, they dumb things down a little bit too much for my liking, the octane choruses feel more bland than ever and many of the heavy moments have been reduced to seemingly ... read more
Dying Wish are crazy good songwriters. Honestly I would put them among the best of the modern metalcore scene. They can blend the melodic and the heavy in an amazing way similar to the bands of the early 2000s. This song has a somber tone but it also mixes in some absolutely crushing heavy moments that still manages to feel in place.
Probably the most unique of the singles so far. This one has a really cool guitar solo and a clean vocals moment that reminds me of Better Lovers. As per usual with End It, the whole thing grooves hard and is a lot of fun.
This is the best single so far. The starting riff is absolutely crushing and it keeps a rhythm throughout while the rest of the song progresses around it. The solo towards the end adds a nice melodic touch and then the drummer goes absolutely ham for the last minute of the song. The chorus is a little on the weaker side but everything else more than makes up for it
I like the heavy parts but im not a fan of the Deftones-like chorus they did. It's executed fine but bands like Loathe or even Thornhill have scratched that itch for metalcore with Deftones influence far better this year.
The local boys are back at it again with an absolute banger. This song hits hard throughout, reminicent of bands like Orthodox or even a bit of Chamber. The solo could have been a tad flashier for my tastes but it was still good, and the guitar work throughout the rest of the track is absolutely crushing with a really fun breakdown at the end.
