The riff in this song is a lot of fun and I like this band's clean vocals
The lead single Trenches had me a little worried. The generic sound and weird vocal effects legit had me thinking it was an AI song for a second. Fortunately, every other song on the album goes hard. The grooves on this album are genuinely fantastic and there are thrashy elements spread throughout ripped straight from the 90s. Konan Hall's clean vocals are powerful as always, really providing a driving force to the choruses. Overall, if you enjoy metalcore, groove metal, or even ... read more
It is certainly a unique and creative album but likely not something I will regularly return to
They still use these fuckass jingles in burger king commercials to this day
Kinda shocked by the low ratings on this considering it has the Botch guy on vocals. Sure it isn't AS good as Botch is but that is because Botch are absolute legends in the metalcore space, not because this album necessarily falters in any huge way. Overall, New Distances brings forth some rather straightforward but also very well executed metalcore. It's got the needed energy, it's raw, and it's got memorable riffs and drum grooves. Dave Verellen also gives a very solid ... read more
Why are God Forbid such a goated band in every aspect. Those riffs alone should have had them set for life. Such a shame they had to quit making music.
Highlights: Force-Fed, Antihero
Low Points: Soul Engraved
I haven't listened to Wolves at the Gate since their 2019 release Eclipse. Songs such as A Voice in the Violence and Counterfeit were ones that i really liked back then when I was into less heavy stuff than I am now. Needless to say, I was surprised at how heavy this album is compared to what I was expecting from this band. However, to be honest, I feel that something is lost when the band tries to go for a more metalcore sound. Their melodic songs were what I came to them for. They ... read more
While this may be dissappointing to certain King Gizz fans, it is personally my favorite release I've heard from the band. The jazzy elements are incorporated so well, and every song has such a nice, groovy flow to it. Personally my album of the year so far.
Highlights: Phantom Island, Panpsych
Low Points: Eternal Return
Thanks to @RobiBlueForever for recommending this single to me! I am sorry I did not check it out sooner I did not initially realize it was a single and not a full album and was busy checking out a lot of other new releases. Also sorry I'm not giving it a high score like you maybe hoped I would lol. For the record, this was a solid song, and I do see potential. I also did enjoy this more than a lot of the most recent BMTH album if that makes you feel any better. I wasn't the ... read more
While it lacks some of the rawness the original had, this is a really respectful cover of a classic metalcore song. There were some really cool choices to differentiate it from the original such as the blast beats toward the end and some of the atmospheric production choices. Numbered Days is one of my favorite songs of all time so I'm so glad they didn't butcher this.
You know what? This is a 100 idc. We are so back. This is the most inspired Demon Hunter have sounded in years. Those riffs are so nice and melodic and the cleans feel as powerful as ever. I've enjoyed most of what Demon Hunter has put out but this song has been the first time I've been genuinely excited for their music in a hot minute. Yeah it's not heavy, and I honestly like that direction for this band. They can still do heavier tracks but they can't match their ... read more
Poetry From Pain is Gridiron's third release, but it is the first release I have listened to from the band. This was a solid introduction, the riffs were groovy and the rapping moments worked surprisingly well. It doesn't do anything crazy new, but I don't think it needs to, as what they do on this record works pretty well. I think next album if they introduce a bit more vocal variation and honestly a bit more interesting production choices such as what they did in Still ... read more
While Fit For a King's sound nowadays is pretty generic, something about it draws me in way more than other generic core bands and I can't put my finger on what that is. This was a pretty solid song.
While I would not consider this release to be quite as great as the last two, those albums set an incredibly high bar and overall Rivers of Nihil took their vocalist change in stride. I mean god damn, when I'm saying an album is a downgrade and still giving the thing a 97 AND album of the year so far that's when you know that Rivers of Nihil are a truly amazing band. This album makes a return to Rivers of Nihil being "the saxophone band" but it is still a pretty different ... read more
