It's so bad that it is not good. But not only is it not good, it is also terrible. This song is unpleasant, inferior, poor, and terrible too. Truly an unsatisfactory listen.
This is one of the most important and influential metalcore albums ever made and it does not get anywhere near the credit it deserves. Shai Hulud are a band that inspired an entire branch of metalcore full of amazing bands. Without this album we likely would have never gotten many legendary bands such as Misery Signals, August Burns Red, Boundaries, or even Poison the Well in the state they exist in today. When this album was made, metalcore didn't even really have a consistent name for ... read more
I want to appreciate Turnstile as much as everyone else seems to, but their music just does nothing for me to be honest.
This is the best nu metal album of all time imo. Normally this subgenre doesn't impress me all that much but SOAD really had something special. The pure energy and willingness to experiment makes this album stand out among its peers. In Toxicity, System of a Down hit their peak, every single member of the band was at the top of their game really pushing themselves creatively and each one gets their own moments to shine. The vocals, harmonies, riffs, rhythms, and bass moments are all ... read more
Despite what many people will say, I do not find Sleep Token to be souless or "the Imagine Dragons of metal." There is clearly lots of care put into the music by its members and if they and so many of their fans like it, who am I to stop them. However, this song still has a lot of issues that give me reason to dislike the track though. The music box part came off as tacky to me and the reggaeton beat felt the same. Last year, Knocked Loose did a similar thing, mixing raggaeton ... read more
If you don't like the sound of modern djenty metalcore, then you likely won't enjoy Bloom in Heaven. This EP is certainly one of its genre containing lots of pretty compressed chugs and lots of focus on clean choruses. If you enjoy either band that worked on this release, however, you will find it to be a nice treat. I am someone who enjoys both bands here, I personally consider them to be two of the best of their styles, and Bloom in Heaven blends the distinct sounds of each band ... read more
I did not find this one to be fire unfortunately. The electronics on House of Protection songs are usually really tastefully done, but they felt pretty overbearing in this track to me. This song had a couple pretty cool ideas but it ended up being pretty repetitive and the way the chant of "hit 'em with fire" led up to the chorus sounded kinda goofy to me. The kids chanting is also something I almost always find annoying so of course they had to top everything off with that. ... read more
way better than the last single. the thrashy starting part was pretty fun and the grooves were solid.
For once it feels like a Sleep Token song justifies its length. This song feels like it develops more than I remember anything off of their last album did. It still has the problem of being a bit overproduced but that's so common with modern metal I'm pretty used to it. The song also does feel a little bit divided when it comes to it's sections, although much better than past music I have heard from the band. The saxophone outro was also pretty neat, even if it's not as ... read more
I didnt really get into nu-metalcore until last year, but the genre is starting to fall off for me pretty quickly. I thought it was something fresh and new but they all sound very similar to each other. Silverlake Murder is probably one of the best bands doing the sound right now but I still think they need to shake things up here soon.
'68's 2023 album is not only the punk rock duo's best release, but one of the best releases by lead singer Josh Scogin as a whole. While not bringing the same energy as releases from Norma Jean or The Chariot, '68 brings something entirely different to the table. Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child will always be a legendary album, but that was an album released over 20 years ago. The Chariot are my favorite band of all time, but part of what makes them so special is the ... read more
Spiritbox are a band that I have appreciated since their debut album in 2021, Eternal Blue. While their next release, the Rotoscope EP, was a fantastic release and still my favorite project yet from the band, The Fear of Fear was a project I personally found to be their weakest release yet. It was not a bad release by any means, but in my opinion it didn't shake things up in any way from what they had done in the past and was honestly just a less interesting version of Eternal Blue. ... read more
I stg Kaonoshi instrumentals are so fire and then they just add some of the worst sounding harsh vocals I've heard over the top of them
Honestly this is the first spiritbox song that I haven't liked. I still have high hopes for the album despite this and am hopeful that this will flow better in the context of the album.
If you’ve seen my reviews around this site, you’ll know that most of my favorite albums typically fall into the metalcore genre. Choose Your Weapon, however, managed to make it into my top 3 albums of all time while being nearly the complete opposite of what I regularly listen to. This is the perfect jazz album in my opinion. Yes I know it’s TECHNICALLY neo-soul, but it's close enough idc lmao. This album contains lots of depth to the music with amazing drumming and ... read more
Mastodon deep dive #2
Well here it is. The classic definitive Mastodon album. Considered by many to not only be the best Mastodon album but one of the best metal albums in general. While I actually disagree with it being Mastodon's best, I do agree it's one of the greatest metal albums out there. The three song run of Blood and Thunder, I Am Ahab, and Seabeast is one of the strongest multiple song runs you'll ever hear, and the whole album is super consistent throughout. I ... read more
