August Burns Red has been one of my favorite bands for quite a while now. In my opinion, they have never released a bad album. Their first album, Thrill Seeker, however, was always what I viewed as one of their weakest albums. That was until today. After 20 years of improving their skills and perfecting their formula, ABR return to their first record for an anniversary rerecording. Much like all of the band's other rerecordings, this is pretty much just a straight improvement from the ... read more
The two best current bands doing the djenty modern metalcore sound. Of course it's gonna sound really good.
Donkey Kong Country 2 is not my favorite game in the Donkey Kong series, but it is in my opinion not only the best soundtrack in DKC, but in video games as a whole. David Wise is an absolute genius composer, utilizing the sounds of the SNES in the absolute best way possible to create the perfect mood and atmosphere in every single level in this game. The pirate theme is a really fun twist on the original game, and the soundtrack brings a fun sea shanty twist to the game while also keeping the ... read more
I love the grooves but its just so compressed and there isn't much to the song compared to Impending Doom's other stuff
Keep Planting Flowers had a very weak start, but it picked up very well about halfway through. The fast thrashy sections are where this band sounds best, and if more of the album had that sound then this would have been a great release. In the state it's in right now it's a fine album, a little repetitive and pretty generic but hey, we need some generic metalcore here and there. I had fun giving this a listen and will return to the highlights of the album.

The dead next door is a solid 90s metalcore release. Spitfire's debut album isn't quite on the levels of other 90s metalcore titans like Botch or The Dillinger Escape Plan(who both released incredible albums in 1999), but they do deserve recognition as one of the early mathcore bands. If you love the sound of 90s metalcore you will enjoy this album. Personally, I feel that the rawness of the album helps it hold up today, but the music isn't as distinct as many other mathcore ... read more
This isn't Architects fault, but with all the Architects-core bands out there now this sound is a little boring to me nowadays. The chorus also felt really generic to me and didn't do much to stand out.
One of the heaviest core albums out there for sure. Every note on this thing feels like a strike of thunder. The vocals are also energetic enough to match the rest of the sound created by the instruments. Unfortunately, the album doesn't show a ton of range in its 40 minute run time. Both the instrumentals and especially the vocals sound samey from song to song, and while the sound created is quite grand, it becomes a little dull in a front to back listen.

Holy Design by Soulkeeper is a fantastic debut album, blending mathcore and electronic elements together in perhaps the most seamless way I have heard it done. There are many moments on this album that imitate the chip tune style found in a retro video game, but they are mixed in with absolutely PSYCHOTIC breakdowns and crazy drum rhythms that all blend together to form a(and I mean this in the best way possible) beautiful mess. Despite the heavy production done to this album, it still ... read more
While this early ep from Godseyes is good, it is nowhere near the level of their debut album that would come four years later. It has a solid sound but doesn't do as much to stand out in the mathcore scene.
Progress//Regress is a highly underrated album and one of the best mathcore releases of the 2020's so far in my opinion. Taking clear inspirations from the side of mathcore that contains bands like Botch, The Chariot, and Norma Jean, Godseyes become a worthy successor of the raw, groovy mathcore sound that those bands had. Progress//Regress doesn't fully fall into that specific niche however, as they also mix in some other jazzy experimentation the likes of which reminded me of ... read more

"ABR never change their sound"
Ok then explain to me how almost every time they have rerecorded music it has been developed on and improved significantly.
Is it just me or is this song way more compressed than anything off of their last two eps?
