My most anticipated EP of the year has finally dropped, was it worth the wait? In short, yeah. Venerate is a very solid return from a band that hasn't dropped any new music in over a decade. The EP takes a much different approch from Paria's other releases, still being metalcore, but this time leaning much more towards the metal than the core, even taking a bit of a thrashier sound at times. While I don't enjoy this release as much as their debut album, I do think it ... read more
While these two singles aren't as good as the more polished versions on Misanthropos, the more raw sound is still pretty fun.
In their new album, Better Lovers take great aspects from both Every Time I Die and The Dillinger Escape Plan while also diving further into their own sound. Highly Irresponsible is the not so long awaited debut album of Better Lovers, releasing just barely over a year after their first EP, with several singles dropped in between to keep fans occupied. While the ETID breakup sucks, Better Lovers have entered the scene with an absolute vengeance, dropping song after song, and while I ... read more
Between this, the new Pipe Bomb single, and Better Lovers' new album, mathcore fans have been absolutely FEASTING over the past 5 days.
With its unrelenting onslaught of pounding drums, piercing guitars, and monstrous vocals, Orange Mathematics by Frontierer reinvigorates its already highly experimental genre. The album was released in 2015, three years after the formation of the band. Despite having minor issues, such as its long runtime, this debut album is an excellent introduction to Frontierer and its creativity and performances push the boundaries forward in its genre.

my goat howard jones has done "it" again. and by "it", haha. let's justr say. good vockals.
A cool album if just for the fact that you get a bit of soad feeling in the metalcore. It obviously never touches soad but that doesn't make it bad because that's a high bar.
Highlights: Paradise, Abandon, Cry...
Low Points: Go!, Sunrise
This has grown on me quite a bit over the past few days. Really fun and one of INK's best tracks. Its a bit corny but in a fun intentional way and the breakdown is actually really cool.
Wasn't expecting to prefer the pop single over the metal one. This is honestly really disappointing. Poppy has always been a really unique and creative artist and metalcore is my favorite genre, so this should be working for me much more than it is. Unfortunately everything has been so basic so far. the cost of giving up is the least interesting single so far, it does the same exact thing every metalcore band did for the entire 2010s. On the other hand, crystallized was actually sort ... read more
This ep is all killer no filler. I like a lot of TDWP's work, but this ep is special. It's some of their heaviest music to date and being in such a short ep has no time to fuck around. The tracks have all of the bands strengths and none of the weaknesses. I pray we get a Space EP 2 because eps are where The Devil Wears Prada puts out their best work in my opinion.
This album is overflowing with creativity and contains many very cool moments. The problem is that many songs overstay their welcome and don't use the time they take as well as they could. The vocals could also use some more variety in my opinion. I do think that this album is good overall though and that this band shows a ton of potential to grow from where they currently are.
Highlights: Dreamkiller, Midas
Low Points: Afterburner, The Trench
For a debut album, this is pretty great. However, it doesn't do a lot to stand out from other proggy metalcore that has come out the past few years. Buster is a great producer but his style is starting to become very overused in my opinion. The playing is solid but nothing too crazy compared to a lot of the recent thall releases such as Humanity's Last Breath or Mirar. Despite my criticisms, I congratulate the band on getting out such a solid first release and look forward to ... read more
With Seelenfrieden, Consvmer manages to create an incredibly intense and dark atmosphere while shitposting throughout at the same time. This album contains some of the heaviest moments in metalcore this year so far which is saying a lot considering some of its competition. The only nitpick I have with this album is a few of the songs do blend together a bit. This is still a fantastic album though and I'm excited as hell to see what this band does next.
