The New Sound is an album containing absolutely fantastic and experimental instrumentals. The only real issue with the album that I have is the vocals. I didn't care for Greep's vocals when he was in Black Midi and I still don't particularly care for them in his solo project either. That's not to say they are bad, they just simply aren't for me. Despite this issue that I have, the album is still great. The vocals work better here for me than they did in Black Midi ... read more
Frontierer just dropped EP of the year at the very last minute. I absolutely love this band, I just got into them pretty recently but they're up there with some of the best in mathcore in my opinion. My only real gripe with most of their past works is that they were a little bit too long, typically running in the 50 minute range, which is far more than most of the mathcore I listen to. This is a very small complaint as the albums were still all excellent releases, but in the EP format, ... read more
What kind of glitch in the matrix resulted in Josh Scogin making an indie folk project?
Highlights: God, The Devil, and Me, Georgia
Low Points: I Sing A Lot
Me when other band drops generic modern metalcore >:(
Me when Silent Planet drops generic modern metalcore :)
More slop please!!
Younger me would have definitely made fun of current me's music taste.
Highlights: Dracula Mountain, Crown of Storms
Low Points: Duel in the Deep
I somehow forgot to rate this when it came out. So far, Vile Conduct is my favorite ep of the year. This ep deserves a lot more attention, it's one of the heaviest releases of the year with absolutely brutal breakdowns. It's a short and sweet album with lyrics that actually have meaning behind them. Murder8 is the best callout of the year in a year of great callouts.
I was fucking with it then the chorus started and ruined everything for me. Vocals also got annoying the longer the song went on.
In two years, this is the seventh time this band has released a single, ep, or album with the song "Salt" on it. The only new track here is also an acoustic version of a song from half a decade ago, which is decent but worse than the original song. "Reasons" is overly angsty even for TDWP standards and one of their worst songs. "Ritual" was a song I was excited for when it released as a single but it's just more mid octanecore. I love this band but this is ... read more
So this is actually the critic's highest rated metalcore album of all time on this site. It's a good album, but definitely not that good. Some super fun raw energetic mathcore but most of it doesn't do a lot to stand out amongst its peers. The vocals also don't have a lot of variety, along with feeling like they aren't quite mixed correctly. It may seem like I'm kinda shitting on this album, but when its the highest rated in an entire genre of music I think it ... read more
Absolutely fantastic instrumentals and vocals absolutely brimming with personality. Like many here, this album has been a grower on me, and I may come around to appreciating it even more in the future. Probably the best post-hardcore record I've heard at this point.
Highlights: Ape Dos Mil, Stuck Pig, The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports
Low Points: Must've Run All Day, Trailer Park Jesus
okay, so my last video, uhh explosive diarrhea stories, it was an explosive hit to a lot of you, so um, and, i-i've been getting requests for more poop stories, so.. here's a really, uh, funny, and disgusting, poop story. so, uhhh, i used to joust on horseback with a group of guys and we used to travel all over the western states, um, full con- full contact jousting, full suits of armor and heavy solid pine lances n stuff like that, and uh, a big part of our, uh, summer was going up ... read more
Frontierer takes djent and makes it not boring again. Djent is so cool when it beats your ass like this.
"I ran into my brother at the trough today"
"He tasted good"
Self Help is the sophomore album by mathcore band Spitfire. Spitfire comes from the same branch of mathcore as bands such as Botch, Norma Jean, and The Chariot, even containing one of the original Norma Jean guitarists in the bands lineup for this album, although he left soon after it was published. This album hits everything you would want or expect from a 2000s mathcore record of its kind. Unique rhythmic ... read more
-15 points for being british. This band is so silly and whimsical. Zilf blends so many different styles and genres together seamlessly into one mathcore project and it's very impressive. They manage to be extremely goofy and really fucking cool better than almost any other band I've heard. I cannot imagine someone disliking this album unless they hate fun.
Highlights: Zef, Sick, Trust Me, I'm a Doctor!
Low Points: RIP in Peace
