Kaonashi - The 3 Faces of Beauty: A Violent Misinterpretation of Morgan Montgomery
35

While I did really like the instrumental of this ep, I found the vocals to be really obnoxious and that sadly ruined it for me.

Fit For A King - Creation / Destruction
84

FFAK really went: no one cares about the parts of the song that aren't the breakdown, so let's just chain breakdowns for 3 minutes and call it good. This worked out amazingly somehow and produced an album that to this day contains some of my favs from Fit For a King. The one calm song(Skin and Bones) is also pretty good.
Highlights: Destruction, Bitter End
Low Points: Identity, The Lioness

Diamond Construct - Angel Killer Zero
48

A couple decent tracks here but most of the songs just made me cringe a lot lol. Don't really understand the praise this album is getting when there are multiple other albums that go for a similar vibe and do a better job at it. If you want electronic or breakcore in your metal then CANDY or fallingwithscissors are both better options imo.
Highlights: Delirium, I Don't
Low Points: Neon, Faded

BIG ASS TRUCK I.E. - BIG ASS DEMO
89

This is the pinnacle of music

Kingdom Of Giants - Asphalt
59

Poppy choruses in metalcore have been overdone for years at this point. The song is well made but doesn't really do anything interesting.

Oh, Sleeper - Children of Fire
98

I forgot how good this album is. Oh, Sleeper are a band that I really feel has the potential to release a perfect 100 for me. They blend together all sorts of different styles of metalcore and make it work really well. It gets very mathy at points and those parts are some of my favorite mathcore I've ever heard. It also has far more interesting djenty parts than most bands out there do. I really hopw thay this band releases some new music soon.
Highlights: The Marriage of Steel and ... read more

Fit For A King - Technium
80

When they said that this was going to be a heavy single I kinda expected it to just be Backbreaker part 5(which I would have been ok with), but this is a new interesting direction for the band. Overall a good single and the better of the two released this year imo.

Bodysnatcher - Infested
85

This is probably about to be one of the best eps of the year

Chat Pile - I Am Dog Now
90

I am become dog, destroyer of cats.

Attack Attack! - Blood On The Walls
10

go back to being funny please

that's a bad idea - that's a bad idea
78

Reallylike these guy's comedy videos and it's cool to see them branch out into other things. Happy for them because they seem to be pretty proud of this.

Speed - ONLY ONE MODE
89

Overall a really fun hard hitting album. I could definitely see this one growing on me. I really need to dig more into some more actual hardcore that isn't metalcore lol.
Highlights: DON'T NEED, ONLY FOES..., THE FIRST TEST
Low Points: none tbh

Unearth - Bask in the Blood of Our Demons
85

Two new songs plus live recordings of the two best off their last album? Yes please

156/Silence - Better Written Villain
45

Their last single was really good but I really wasn't a fan of the vocal effects on this one

As I Lay Dying - The Cave We Fear To Enter
45

I love melodic metalcore and I think this band has dropped some bangers in the past but this song is missing something. It lacks the amount of grit I want from this kind of track.

King Crimson - Red
88

Butt-rock band RED was so good that King Crimson made a whole album about them.
Highlight: One More Red Nightmare
Low Point: Providence

Opal In Sky - Dream Shift
73

I discovered these guys through YouTube Shorts and then learned they had a band shortly before this dropped. While it's not really anything new that blew my socks off, it was a very fun well made metalcore release and you can tell that they are just having fun making the kind of music they love so I enjoyed it quite a bit. I also always fuck with some uplifting lyrics in my metalcore.
Highlights: Those Who Wait, Serene
Low Points: Introspect

"You can just explain why you don't like it without trying to undermine everyone who does. Just because it isn't as good as Jane Doe doesn't make everyone who loves the album a fake metal fan who gets their taste from Fantano. Personally I think this a great blend of their rawer mathier stuff and more atmospheric sludge metal tracks. I Won't Let You Go is one of my favorite Converge tracks because imo it has one of their most memorable riffs and I enjoyed the sludgey progression of other tracks such as Detonator. You don't have to like the album but the way you are talking in this review is just as pretentious as the hipsters you claim to hate."

"Glad you enjoyed this. People can say what they want about it being "another abr album" but if I go to a steakhouse I want a quality steak not something else to eat you get me. ABR have a distinct sound and I'm happy to hear more from them whenever they put something out, this may be a top 3 record from them."

"@HomeSession3 I think there is a solid chance you enjoy it since you gave Phantom Anthem an 80. The melodic riffs are very reminiscint of that era of the band but executed a little better imo. It's definitely better than Guardians or Death Below at the very least, but to be fair I'm very biased towards this band in particular lmao."

"I liked the song but yeah I miss the melodic riffs. Death Is Little More felt like an evolution on August Burns Red and Misery Signals while this feels more like what the rest of the metalcore scene is doing. I think they write good angry shit though so I'm ok with it. Plus I'll take it over the recent Dying Wish any day tbh."

On Benparton's review of Converge - Love Is Not Enough
"Highly recommend Axe To Fall. It's their most melodic album but it's still got the signature Converge chaos. All We Love We Leave Behind and No Heroes are also both great albums, and Bloodmoon is a really cool gothic metal project where they completely changed their sound up."
