Thanks to @Noodle for recommending this album to me! This was a hidden gem that probably would have slipped past me had he not sent it my way. Dehumanize is right up my alley, the early 2000s New Wave of American Heavy Metal is one of my favorite eras of the genre, and this album takes heavy inspiration from those bands, I specifically hear lots of Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage in this album. Instrumentally this album is just incredible to be honest, those melodic riffs are so tasteful ... read more
Thanks to @Benparton for the recommendation! Sorry it took so long for me to get around to this lmao. I had heard of Islander before through their song Skin Crawl, where they collaborated with the vocalists of both Zao and Korn, but their other music never really drew me in enough to check out a full album. Well apparently I have been missing out because Grammy Nominated was definitely a really solid album. The first couple of songs were solid, but didn't necessarily stand out too much ... read more
This single scratched the itch. It has some great melodic riffs while still sounding rough and gritty. Inject this album into my veins right now
No need for me to rate this but the new song The Impossible end goes hard as hell and you yes YOU should listen to it rn
The Devil Wears Prada are a band I care a lot about, so it does hurt a little to not enjoy their new album. I am someone that normally strongly dislikes when people throw around terms like "sellouts" but I am struggling to think of any better way to describe the sound of this album. Of all the negative names you could have called TDWP in the past, "generic" was not one of them, but with "Flowers" it feels like going for a generic sound was all that they were ... read more

Trivium are a band that have aged like a fine wine. While my personal favorite record from them is definitely "Ascendency," there's no denying that their last four releases have been top tier and some of the band's best material. The members of Trivium are masters of balancing classic heavy riffs with chuggy metalcore elements and catchy hooks that WILL grow on you. This ep in particular was a fantastic final showing of their now former drummer's skill, it contains ... read more
Another really boring single from Poppy. Look, I don't think that every single metalcore song needs to reinvent the wheel or anything, but if you are going to go the generic route it is already not going to stick as hard as an album that tries something creative or interesting. To pull off a generic metalcore track you need to have tons of energy and passion behind the song, there are certain songs by bands like Fit For a King that are great examples, such as "God of Fire." ... read more
This is my dark horse album of the year contender, an album that I didn't even know was releasing until about two weeks before it dropped. This album does a great job filling the void that Every Time I Die left when they broke up, the harsh vocals have a similar energy behind them to Keith's and the instrumentals are chaotic yet groovy. Despite having obvious inspirations, Bore still manage to create a unique sound, and they certainly aren't afraid to do any experimenting ... read more
The first song was surprisingly amazing and the second song was solid but nothing mind blowing. I can respect the third song for trying something different but it did not sound good in the slightest
Poppy used to have such a creative sound but as soon as Jordan Fish got involved she switched to octanecore. It feels very souless to me, this style of alt-metal has definitely been done to death, and she does nothing to shake things up which is something that I used to expect from her.
This single has a cery dissonant sound that I absolutely adore. Everything is just slightly off in a perfect way that makes me want to listen to it over and over again.
Not sure if Keith was involved with writing the lyrics or not but if he was then that ego's gotta chill. That being said this song bangs. The riff is an absolute earworm and Keith's feature feels very natural to this band's style.
Get a bit of jazz in this one. Honestly might be in my top 5 singles of the year this sounds really damn good.
Another banger from Pipe Bomb. Lots of explosive energy on this one. It really was the bomb. Bliss really is a blast from the past, sounding much like early mathcore music from the 2000s. He did change his sound a bit here going for a shorter more fast paced sound, but it works, I'm glad he didn't bomb the attempt.
Didn't hook me but I still trust this band because their singles usually grow on me when they are put in a larger context.
This is actually a really damn cool song. Vocals are goofy af but that's just Dave being Dave. Excited for their new album.
