One of the best live albums of all time, Every performance has such an emotive and personal feel. In his grief Clapton now fully sober turned to the only other thing he knew, music and the blues and poured his entire soul into each of these performances.
Good tracks are real good, super long album with quite a bit of filler though, kinda tough to get fully through, I do appreciate that he tried a new sound here though and it’s not a bad final album
Definition of a modern classic right here, Phenomenal release, Geese restore my faith in modern music a little bit ngl
It’s fine… I was thinking “well it’s only their debut” but this seems to be their most acclaimed so… yeah idk. I can appreciate a lot of the guitar playing here even if it’s not the style I like personally however the album is full of painfully forgettable melodies leaving most songs feeling half baked or like filler
Really enjoyable listen!. Any fans of Derek and the dominos will certainly get some enjoyment out of this.
Bobby’s vocal performances are just as rollicking and passionate as you would expect coming from the Layla album (Speaking of, the tracks “Song for Paula and “Back Home in England” are extremely reminiscent of “Anyday” and “Thorn tree in the garden” respectively).
Best tracks for me were the latter mentioned “Back home in England” ... read more
This is the best Queen album in my opinion with it becoming a bit of an obsession of mine recently, to me this is the Queen album where everything comes together, it has the perfect balance of catchy hits, experimentation and hard rock more akin to their first albums, the experimental tracks here really work for me, even extremely whacky ones like Bicycle race are extremely fun and the biggest songs Don’t stop me now and Fat Bottomed Girls feel very deserving of their popularity. Every ... read more
Most consistently excellent Queen album in my opinion, however you could also argue that it’s one of the most safe Queen albums, I personally adore every track here and really like the more stripped back returning to their roots approach, noticeably less input from Freddie on this album with all members contributing multiple songs which I honestly like.
Despite not being one of my personal favorites, it will always impress me how MJ just did not drop the ball here with the follow up to Thriller, nor did he just do the exact same thing again. Vocally, MJ at this point perfected his unique style of line delivery with songs like “Smooth criminal” being the most iconic example of this, Bad has a certain edge and punchy sound that even in following albums was never quite replicated which I really enjoy, my main issue with this album is ... read more
If you can get over the different direction and at times slightly dated sound, this album is really something special and the hidden gem of MJ’s discog (well about as hidden as a Michael Jackson record can be), the sheer amount of tracks as well as my initial surprise at the direction MJ took with this album meant it took a few listens to click, however this album has quickly become a favorite of mine in his catalog.
For a double album, Dangerous is impressively consistent and paced ... read more
My god this album is brilliant, Disco wouldn’t normally be a genre I enjoy but MJ’s soulful energy on this album is something I can’t resist, from the high energy songs like “Don’t stop till you get enough” and “Workin’ day and night” to the quieter moments like “I can’t help it” and especially “She’s out of my life” this albums pacing is genuinely perfect having a softer sound in the second half, picking ... read more
Thriller:
Genuinely a perfect record, Im aware that is the most grass is green observation possible but it’s true, every song has such a warm infectious feel, you can really tell this is where MJ started to perfect his craft especially in terms of songwriting and unique line delivery. His vocals have a soothing and more innocent feel here which would change pretty much from Bad onwards which isn’t a negative thing per-say, however that youthful and slightly cheesy sound of the ... read more
This is often referred to as a sequel or continuation to Slowhand despite not having nearly the same popularity.
I personally prefer this quite a bit to Slowhand, The track list just feels more consistent to me as well as lacking a lot of the sappiness of Slowhand, this record has some great rockers like ‘Roll it’ and ‘Watch out for Lucy’ (with the latter being a favorite of mine), an almost 8 minute blues number ‘Early in the morning’ and even a brilliant ... read more
I’m well aware that this album is a fan favorite however no matter how many times I give it another chance this one has just never clicked for me, of course there’s no denying that tracks like ‘Cocaine’, ‘Next time you see her’ and ‘The core’ are solid, tracks like ‘Wonderful tonight’ and ‘Lay down sally’ while iconic just don’t do it for me… aside from ‘Mean old frisco’ (Which is inferior to the ... read more
I thought highly of this album for quite some time but it has honestly gone down for me more and more over time.
While I still really enjoy this one, the main drawback for me is the guitar work.
Quite simply it just isn’t great and feels stale a lot of the time, especially compared to another blues release like ‘From the cradle’, most of the tracks here rely on the piano and harmonica parts to give them life which is not a bad thing, however it’s just not what I’d ... read more
Incredible listen, If an entire album of blues covers from Clapton doesn’t sound like perfection to you, I don’t know what will. This record has some amazing guitar work and vocal performances, on tracks like ‘Blues before sunrise’ especially.
It always impresses me how Eric manages to adapt and improve his vocals as he ages. After a stretch of 80s records ranging from bad to mediocre I’m sure this album was a godsend for Clapton fans when it released. This is my ... read more
This is an often forgotten release from Clapton releasing in between some of my least favorite albums in his discography.
I feel that this album is actually a very solid release with pretty much every track being at the very least good, tracks like ‘Pretty girl’ and ‘Ain’t going down’ definitely deserve more recognition as well as the album in its entirety.
I will always have this album to thank for making me want to check out the rest of Clapton’s solo ... read more
The word to describe this album is forgettable, The majority of this album feels like a boring predecessor to ‘Slowhand’, However that’s not to say this album doesn’t have some great moments, the more bluesy tracks like ‘County jail blues’, ‘last night’ and especially ‘Double trouble’ are excellent songs. This album does feature Bon Dylan on some tracks but it’s not enough to save this otherwise mediocre release
Coming a year after Ocean boulevard, I went into this album with high expectations, I was unfortunately left disappointed as this album feels like a direct response to the success of ‘I shot the sheriff’ the year prior. Despite the album having some… questionable moments like ‘Don’t blame me’ it does pick up steam in the latter half with tracks like ‘The sky is crying’, Pretty blue eyes’ and ‘High’ being surprisingly solid.
This is my personal favorite of Clapton’s solo releases, the sheer variety here is impressive, From the fast paced rockers to the blues classics, this album has everything you’d expect from Clapton and more tapping into Funk, country and even reggae, despite this, the album never feels like it doesn’t flow, every track feels very much in place and adds to the unique, relaxed but fun feeling of this record.
Almost every track here is a favorite of mine even though tracks like ... read more
