By the time I started getting into metal, Thrash was well past its prime. Eventually, I'd search for the lesser known of the genre. This led me to some, what I'd at least consider, classic albums by: Coroner, Vektor, to name a couple.
Digging a bit deeper, I naturally stumbled upon this release. Personally, I believe this is both, underrated and under appreciated. This has everything you'd want in a thrash metal album. The less than 40 minute runtime makes it easy to digest but still ... read more
..One of the better prog/symphonic metal releases in recent years. The songwriting, the overall production, really shines on The Triton Project's debut.
It's reminiscent of prog/symphonic records from the late 90's-2000's, but still stands out, thanks to a balance of melodic pieces that contrast the heavier elements. This is needed, as the album consists of songs clocking in at 10-20 minutes, concluding with a 28 minute grandiose finale, 'Lighthouse of the World'.

I'll forever be a fan Daniel's (O.P.N.) work. Some of his albums I find to be quite more compelling than others. I feel they are significant within the respective genre.
His latest, Again, falls somewhere in between all that he has done. I believe this one is very accessible; a good one to recommend to someone who has not listened to Oneohtrix Point Never. Some parts, I feel that he is reaching a bit too much. The middle is a bit sluggish. But mostly, I enjoyed his latest effort, ... read more
Noise-y, dark forest, dissonant. It's rare that I type out a review that's decent. But, if any of those descriptions appeal to you, assuming anyone even sees this submission, then I do recommend checking this out.
Yellow Eyes has a pretty consistent track record of creating some incrediblely atmospheric music. Their approach is rather unique. There is a defined balance in style, One part- hypnotic beauty + another part eerier ominous sounds.
One of the better 'Blackgaze' releases over the past few years or so. I was growing a bit tired of the sub-genre. But this is very well produced and heavy enough to appeal to metal fans in general.
The opening track is an absolute killer of a kickoff. Though the band doesn't quite keep the creative/intense combo going forward throughout, it's still a strong album. I love the futuristic and technical aspects Gridlink brings to the table with their grindcore sound. A must listen if you're into that sort of thing.
Rifftastic. Truly ahead of its time. Only tiny blemishes towards the back end of the album, keep me from calling it one of the top death metal albums ever created. Having said that, it's still a classic
I'm surprised this isn't as highly regarded as Tangerine Dream's Phaedra or Rubycon, for example. The more I listen to this, the more I love it. I'm far from an expert when it comes to progressive electronic music and the influence Tangerine Dream had moving forward after this release. But, this sounds to me, at least, quite innovative.
About a third of the way into the title track, I hear elements of symphonic metal. The second track has some incredible 'synth'y', futuristic sounds. And ... read more
A very rewarding experience. I put off listening to this because I wanted to be in just the right mindset and fully immerse myself into it. And that time came last night.
This is some next level stuff. There's only a select few albums that bring about these audio-visuals in my head like No Highs did: Time Machines S/T album..some of Oneohtrix Point Never's work, to name a few. This was indeed another one.
Incredible work Hecker. It's technical but simple and elegant.

Ok..I get it, I get it. 3rd, 4th listen or so, and it hit me. A bunch of things hit me. The emotional feelings attached to it and the adjectives I can use to describe this album go on and on.
But, ultimately, and simply put, this is one heavy record. The instrumentals are simple and subtle, yet they strike deep.
Spiderland happened to find a way to throw itself in a multitude of 'boxes' we like to create. It's influential. It's impressive. It's personal. And its fun, if you're a ... read more
It was one of those moments. Everything lined up perfectly. I put this on, never getting tired of a single note. I wondered if I would become bored by any repetitivness, but I didn't. This sucked me in a way like only a few records have before.
With Midnight Odyssey's releases, 'Shards...and 'Funerals from.., I felt the end justified the means. But, the runtime on 'Silhouettes of Stars' goes on for too long. It starts off with a bang. The feeling of journeying through a vast cold space felt very familiar, picking up where 'Shards of Silver Fade' (an album that I recommend highly) left off. But somewhere near the first quarter of 'Silhouettes..the momentum begins to dissipate.

Traveling through space in a somewhat battered ship.
This is eerie stuff, and not quite what I was expecting. Later releases by Tangerine Dream, Phaedra and Rubycon for example, were more appealing and sonically sound. They had a certain flow to them.
Alpha Centauri has it's moments but ultimately, fails to deliver something truly special. I'd still recommend it to fans of Electronic/space ambient music. After all, this is, just my opinion.
..so glad I gave this a second listen. It's best to go into this one without any expectations. If you're wanting to hear Gorguts or some post rock/metal version of them, you may be let down.
This is far from being one dimensional or 'gimmicky'. Kayo Dot delivers a diverse, and incredibly executed album here. The overall atmosphere of Choirs of the Eye effortlessly shifts from sounding dark and ominous one moment to something lush and mesmerizing the next.
Definitely an 'outside of the box' album. While it won't be for everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed this, as its sectioned into two separate styles: ambient, or electronic psybient, music, along with some pretty dense, but wonderfully crafted atmospheric black metal.
Caio Lemos is a truly gifted artist. I strongly recommend checking out more of his work with Bríi and Kaatayra.
Impressive debut. Well balanced. The production/execution is top notch. I'm very surprised of, both the lack of attention this is getting, and the lower ratings.
