this somehow has some of the greatest production ive EVER heard while being super brutal. coming of age a bit more recently ive come to also appreciate the lyrics and meaning alot more, a man's self destruction / suicide and everything evil leading up to it. never got super close to that point (luckily) but i understand it. its gruesome but its beautiful
that being said it falls a bit down in general towards the last bit of the album (hurt is an exception, thats the best song) and some ... read more
fucking sick listening experience dude. yeah there were songs and "interludes" that i thought were not as good as others like turquoise hexagon sun, olsen, etc (EDIT 7/13/25, HOW DID I ORIGINALLLY NOT LIKE OLSON OR HEXAGON SUN? BOTH ARE PERFECT!!! OLSON IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME) but even then those are good songs and the high points of this album had me in a damn trance. its like entering a portal into the past and realizing the nostalgia isn't as pleasant as ... read more
pretty self explanatory, this album has been praised to death (for good reason.) super monumental achievement in music and groundbreaking production.
i had this as an 80 for a while but mostly because i didnt appreciate some songs back then like i did now, electioneering, karma police, exit music, etc. i did prefer kid a, which i also undervalued at the time. all songs are boundary breaking and for it to really depict a bit of the future just adds so much to it
7/13/24 | 95 -> 100
genuinely cant think of anything wrong with this. verses flow well with the luscious groovy lofi beats and they fuse beautifully. nujabes you were one talented man. rest in power
(back to 95, 9/14/25. Still great but I prefer metaphorical music)
just not a big fan of his new stuff although its a SLIGHT. slight improvement from his previous works. some moments hit. banger JID verse. Em has good flows. edgy in a not so great way. some songs are super weak.
Also I remember seeing this a bit after it came out and people review bombed the hell out of it. You people stayed up late just to fucking review bomb it. Holy shit get a life
how do you make this and then make revival later down the road
this is a personal fav rap album of mine but i cant give it more than a 75 cause tbh half the songs are AMAZING and half are mid. also it is SUPER edgy. it doesnt feel like controversial rambling like it does with his music now but its still could be a turn off for some
fav songs: bitch please II, Stan, The Way I am, Kim, Kill You, The Real Slim Shady, Criminal
Least fav: what i didnt mention
i get the appeal but the only 4 songs i enjoyed and gave a shit about were the opening song, the title track, holland 1945 and untitled. it has a nice charm and vibe to the album and i definitely understand its appeal but in all honesty i was underwhelmed to death by alot of this and it and it was not real appealing past those 4 songs
a relisten made me care a bit less for this lol
life changing album, when I loved midwest emo This was my favorite album ever
still great and within my top 10. I just dont listen to it as much
classic album. every song flows so perfectly and the vibe i get from this album is so hard to recreate. idc if its a popular pick its popular for a good ass reason
the sound and helpless child are two of the best songs i ever heard but its hard to justify the rest when it just feels like super slow buildup
listened to at work, listened again when i got home. grueling shift but listening to this felt very refreshing and needed afterwards idk why
incredible soundtrack, the fact that its from minecraft doesnt even matter here
i think this will grow on me
75 -> 60
i should like this alot more but idk
single score: 100
dude what can drake possibly do anymore
this is somehow more disrespectful than The Story of Adidon
this changed the entire trap scene and to be honest i dont really see any trap album, ep, whatever beating this album in terms of production, quality, lyricism, etc. Days Before Rodeo was already this super psychedelic trip and contrary to what some might say, was a very strong little mixtape. It was flawed, but good. Rodeo took every flaw that existed from DBR and mastered them, bringing up incredible hooks and strong lyrics to match with SUPER high quality, trippy, psychedelic production. The ... read more
changed my life. the black parade is the super in your face rock opera album that somehow keeps this emo dark theme yet does not feel extremely edgy. Super fun, super great, flawless album
Best song: Mama
Worst song: Disenchanted
i love post rock and im a sucker for slow burns like this but.. this is just boring. The vocals do not mix well with the music, the slow burn feels more like slow drag, nothing special really happens, and all the "climaxes" that happen on this album are laughibly bad. What the fuck even was that few seconds of intensity during Svefn-g-englar. That was so pointless that its genuinely embarrassing. Sucks because I know this is highly praised and its not an objectively bad sounding album ... read more
