im not crazy for dubstep but the listening experience overall is sick. this would blow the mind of an aztecian child into smithereens. skrillex is an absolute pioneer to EDM and its awesome seeing an album that sounds entirely like his peak influence & artistry IN 2025 ESPECIALLY!!!! is awesome
70 -> 80
its literally just a whole dj set. this is incredible
anything below a 70 on this is a crazy disservice. Yeah its a bit of an outdated genre of music but what bands are doing this sound as good as linkin park, especially with this album and meteora (which is better imo)? incredibly important album, unmatched raw energy
its fine, The sound thats shown here is good but theres not really any songs in particular that I think stand out
For an album with such a scuffed rollout and 5 years in the making, I wish Carti would put more effort and energy into it instead of focusing on this cornball opium/mysterious/nonchalant aesthetic he has
this album is so fun dude. absolute landmark for that 2018 soundcloud era of life, arguably the album to define it
was questioning what electroclash was, i could imagine the genre was created for the sake of this album because it sounds exactly like what you would imagine “electroclash” would sound like. heavy dark synth beats clashing with ethereal dreamy stuff. both have some complete duds (some songs have no replayability imo) but the good songs are some of the best of its kind
fav songs: celestia, empathy, baptism, suffocation, Vietnam, Pap Smear
Least Fav: Everything else besides ... read more
Could be a little bit shorter. But this is very underrated and well put together electronic shoegaze. sounds super feel-good to listen to as well
90 -> 95
this is so so underrated. this is WAY too underappreciated in my opinion
ethereal, dream-like, haunting, genuienely makes you feel like youre watching some cyber dystopian world from the future.
angel is better than sex
90->95
production on this thing is genuinely unreal
consistent, emotional, solid. just not my go-to sound
in what universe is this an EP??
i love the energy here. a mix of pure passionate energy, and some really sick and honestly psychedelic introspective songs here.
gnx was a real throw off and i wasnt crazy for the first 5 songs. but for a surprise drop this is very good.
fav songs: heart pt. 6, tv off, reincarnated, dodger blue
least fav: gnx (by a large margin)
7.5/10
7.5 - > 6
i give 6's to stuff i dont really check out
(rated this months back but only doing this now because of a full listen)
mild take, I do prefer Animals over this. It's not a very flawed album but Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5 underwhelmed me a bit and im not insane for Welcome To The Machine.
but beyond that holy fuck. The cut to Have A Cigar is such a contrast yet it fits the idea of the previous song so well and it sounds sooo groovy. Wish You Were Here is such a powerful, emotional, absolutely perfect statement. Shine On You ... read more
I enjoyed Disintegration alot so hearing the band be able to replicate the sound so well while also making it feel unique and fresh is something that isnt really easy to do. The mixing is a bit weird in the beginning with the instrumental overpowering the vocals but its not much of an issue later on. the entire album is just so dreamy and gothic and it really does feel like a relic of what that 80's cure sound was like. this will probably grow on me much like disintegration did
this is carried alot by the 3 main hit songs that it has; time to pretend, kids, and electric feel. the rest is kind of eh. of moons bird and monsters was kinda cool but the rest was just ok
that being said. Those three main songs are too. damn. good.
first song is incredible, the rest is just solid ambiance
70->90
nvr mind, this album’s atmosphere is like no other
The production quality of Igor and the Rapping ability of Flower Boy. Had me floating on occasion. Thank you bisexual black man for making awesome music
i was never able to really appreciate this album like i did with OK computer or KID A. Those two albums I could connect with a certain theme. But In Rainbows was kinda, random. It never clicked. But randomly listening to the album I realize i was stupid. Its just a visualization of the album cover. artsy, vibrant, contrasting, explosive, bold, etc. When you apply that to the music, the music ends up being borderline perfect.
Definitely a must hear, imagine hearing this 50 years ago bro. I do prefer what WYWH and Animals have to offer but holy fuck this really is revolutionary
they were so ahead of their time and you honestly could not convince me this was made in 1977. every song was just some of the best and most hypnotic instrumentals paired with some good ass story telling of that part of capitalism (still relevant) around that time period. incredible
