Actually really good rage. I need to listen to more EsDeeKid and Fimiguerrero, the english do it different. His scouse accent adds so much to it too
Updated: After spending the last five months with this album since its release, I can honestly say it’s one of the best rap albums out right now, and easily the strongest jerk/rage record I’ve heard. I’m new to the jerk scene, but this blew me away. It’s also one of the most concise, no-filler, all-bangers rap projects of ... read more
It didn’t do much for me overall, but it’s still a solid indie record. Even as someone fairly new to the genre, there are a few other artists I’d rank higher. And even though Mitski is a major name in the new-gen indie scene, this album didn’t really make me want to dive deeper into the rest of her catalog.
For some reason this album took me a while to get through, not only cuz of it's long runtime but it never fit what I was in the mood for... Finally got around to finishing it, and honestly it was great.
It did feel a little long/repetitive at times, but overall had some great soft rock tunes, and I loved the boogie/disco influence.
Glad I powered through it and will be adding to my late night playlist.
Solid as fuck. Would have no problem listening to the entire album again, no skips required. Nothing ground breaking, but for a rapper who is known to release a good amount of albums a year, I fuck with most of these tracks heavy.
Late night boom bap vibes.
Wow! Listening to this, I can only imagine what it must have felt like when it first came out. It’s a stunningly beautiful album that perfectly captures the laid-back smooth spirit of Los Angeles in the 70s.
The siblings’ voices blend with such warmth and tranquility. Karen’s is especially nice though. This is everything I want from a ’70s pop record, and it delivers beautifully, I can see why they were the top-selling artists of all time.
(Sidenote, I could also very ... read more
This had to be one of my stops as I dive deeper into my new love for indie and anything psychedelic, and i gotta say it did not disappoint.
I have no point of reference when it comes to the Beach House sound, as this is the first project of theirs I've listened to. But this was an overall great entry point and I will be going through their entire discography!
My introduction to Men I Trust was through their recent release, Equus Caballus, which was genuinely impressive and addictive and a perfect gateway into a genre I had never explored before.
I will honestly say this newer album was super cohesive and well crafted but was a bit less my speed, and was a bit too soft for my taste.
That said, Men I Trust will remain a pillar in my indie regulars, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Genuinely suprised by how many bangers verses duds this EP has. honestly felt more like an album, this had me hyped for basically the entire time.
Lemme start by saying I've been putting off listening to this album for years because I was never a huge Eminem fan.
But DAMN, I didn’t realize just how evil this album really is. Even though he is technically rapping through his alter ego, some of the lyrics like references to raping a 15-year-old is just fucking diabolical.
So beyond the blatantly over-the-top misogynistic lyrics, which could only have flown in the late '90s and early 00s, and despite all the hype ... read more
Really nice jangly indie surf vibes. Feels like driving down a winding coastal road in SoCal with the top down.
Usually tracks without vocals bum me out cuz I feel like there's something missing but here they actually work really well and make the whole thing feel more like a cohesive album.
Edit 75>84: I've grown as a music listener since the first review. Lol who would've thought the album of the year with a 90 would've grown on me. This is great. Ever since I listened to Racing Mount Pleasent's project, which definitely was inspired by this I've understood this album better. Still feels like 90 is glazing a little, that's just cuz lyrics are still a problem for me.
Not quite my jam, to be honest. I feel like a dick for not loving it but ... read more
Même en étant bilingue, ... read more
I’m just starting to get into alt-country, and honestly this album makes the whole thing feel like a smooth and effortless start for a newcomer to the genre.
A perfect, laid-back alt-country album that feels like sitting around a campfire with your friends on a cool summer evening, just as the sun starts to set.
Shout out Grant from Hivemind for the rec!
I’d heard the name Run The Jewels tossed around a lot, but I only got around to checking them out after hearing Blockbuster Night Pt. 1 in a TV show I was watching. That beat hit hard — sounded like the perfect backdrop for a badass bank heist scene.
Honestly, I’m usually not into this kind of intense, instrumental-heavy rap that’s gives me 2010s vibes. But I was pleasantly surprised. Most tracks kept my attention and definitely earned the head-nod stamp of approval. ... read more
Great project by d4vd. Discovered this artist through a friend who was into indie music, especially bedroom pop, wayyy before me – and I gotta say I'm into most of the tracks on here!
Obviously this album is quite emotional and breakup/love song oriented, which isn't quite my vibe. But his voice and the production just has something that makes this more than decent to listen to.
I think someone else said it well. He's somehow found a way to have this very "new" ... read more
Such a beautifully soft and comforting indie album.
I would’ve never predicted that a rap fan like me would enjoy this so much, but damn — Lizzy’s soft, slow-paced voice paired with acoustic guitar and subtle violin is just flawless. It’s got just the right amount of ballad-like qualities, and there’s genuine emotion flowing through every track.
Now, I’ll admit, past me is probably giving me some side-eye for how much I’m gushing over this album. So ... read more
Baby Keem’s The Melodic Blue, right behind JID’s The Forever Story, might just be the best rap/trap album of the 2020s.
It was one of the first rap albums I felt like I truly got to witness and celebrate alongside other fans — and it definitely defines me as a rap lover. I can confidently say this will be considered a classic, if it isn’t already.
Also kind of random, but the track order and how seamlessly each song flows into the next feels almost unprecedented. It ... read more
What can I say. Kendrick is just that guy. He has, and always will be on top.
The kind of groovy west coast rap that makes you feel like you're straight outta LA yourself lol
Exactly the type of indie pop that checks every box for me. Makes you feel like you’re floating in groovy, synthy, bedroom pop maple syrup.
The whole album is pure perfection — one of those listens that makes you feel effortlessly cool.
Seeing them live would be an absolutely ethereal, out-of-body experience.
