Even if I didn’t love every moment here this was still a good listen. Highs like Never Gon Lose and March Madness are really the things holding this up though. The title track, 56 Nights, could be amazing but Future’s vocals are mixed far too low for me and ruins my enjoyment of the rest of the song. Other than that mixing issue, the production here is generally good. It can, at points, get slightly generic though like on the track Now. Not only does Future give a pretty boring ... read more
This is proof that Denzel is the most consistent rapper doing it right now. He’s been putting out pure quality for 8 years now and I don’t see him stopping anytime soon. This is such a solid album. Every track delivers amazing performances and production. There’s this high bar for quality that Denzel doesn’t let anything he puts here go under. There is an exception though in Me Now. It’s not bad, it’s just sub par compared to the rest of the record. I really ... read more
Now this is how you do a short album. Despite the single minute length of each of these songs, they all add something to the experience. She’s able to create these incredible, catchy, memorable tracks in such a short time span. They feel like completed songs with choruses and a verse but in a third of the time that a normal song does. It doesn’t work out in her favor all the time though. For example, one of my favorites here, Pretty Ugly, definitely wanted a little longer to ... read more
Billy woods is an artist I’ve been hooked by ever since I first heard him. I’m continually surprised by how many bars this man has. It’s crazy to me how much quality he’s able to put into his albums despite releasing so much music. I honestly think he’s one of the best rappers in the game right now because of that. The songs on this record transition really well. Especially that one from Christine To Heavy Water, I didn’t even realize it switched tracks at ... read more
I wasn’t crazy about the first 2 tracks here. They’re not bad by any means and they both had elements I did like. Those sounds that play in both ears on the second track specifically felt a little overbearing at points but I liked the rest of what was going on there. The rest of the album is great though. They’re just some really nice beats. Also Listening to Kid A for the first did give off some big Kid A vibes he nailed it.

This is a great collection of songs. I love how spacious Escaping The Dream World is, the atmosphere is amazing. - Do You Solemnly SWEAT - has this grimy sound that contrasts really nicely with those bright synth notes. I enjoyed the switch ups on Confident Individuals. I’m glad the transitions weren’t made to be too jarring. Outer space is terrifying, similarly to the first track, used space really well. I love that bass too. For b-sides, I liked these quite a bit. They show off ... read more
I really like the vocals on here. They’re super washed out and give these songs a little extra to grab on to. Those synths (specifically on the first 2 tracks) give a nice night time vibe. I also love the drums on Kept Going Missing. Solitaire is one of my favorite songs I’ve heard from his discography. It’s just so pretty. I’d definitely recommend this, it’s a great short listen.

I’m gonna split them up into 3 different reviews. This first one is both sides as a whole:
This is their Madvillainy, their OK Computer, their To Pimp A Butterfly. It’s my favorite album of theirs, I don’t want to say by a long shot, but, by about track 4 of Jenny Death I was like “yeah okay it’s their best.” These two sides come together to form such a singular experience. Even if they aren’t that similar at least style wise, they compliment each ... read more
I’m speechless. This truly feels like they took everything that was good about their past albums and made their masterpiece. I’ve never experienced something so abrasive yet so gorgeous at the same time. Death Grips are such masters of their craft, it feels like they’ve beat music. This could’ve been their last album and I don’t think anyone would be unsatisfied. The amount of times my jaw was on the floor listening to this record is insane.
Every track here is ... read more
This is probably the most unhinged I’ve heard Death Grips be and Government Plates was already pretty far off the deep end. Every song here is so loud and abrasive and just off the wall. The opener, Up My Sleeves, proves my point immediately with these loud ass vocal samples and what sounds like a distorted microwave in the background with Ride screaming over top of it. Then it leads into this breakdown 2 minutes in with the vocals samples going even crazier AND THEN it leads into an ... read more
This is probably the prettiest album I’ve heard this year. I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of this shoegazy drone type stuff that this falls into as it usually fails to keep me engaged. However samlrc plays with the exact elements of this genre I do enjoy. Whether it’s the buildups on Philautia, Sortge (my favorite song here), or Sinner that have this really epic (in a positive way) sound to them. They manage to keep me actively listening for the entire 8-12 minutes ... read more
This feels like Damon was trying to make the best out of what was happening at the time and ending up with a pretty fun and dare I say great album. The production is fantastic, as expected with any Gorillaz project at this point. I love how polished it sounds, while still having lots of personality. There is a bit of a dip in quality after the first 4 songs but Aries does a lot to help that with just how good it is. It also ends really nicely with Désolé into Momentary Bliss. ... read more
Danny brings some more great performances on here but nothing’s really blowing me away. This is pretty easily my least favorite Danny album I’ve heard but that’s not saying that much as the 3 (4 if you’re counting SCARING THE HOES) I have heard are just so good. I don’t have that much to say about this though. While this is good I’ve heard much better from Danny and I feel like I could go to XXX or Quaranta for a better experience overall

I went into this album expecting a lot more energetic and soulful performances. This did not give me that though. Instead, this had a lot more slow, jazzy songs that felt a little flat at points. A lot of the shorter tracks here felt half-baked and a bit unnecessary. They stretch the record to 19 songs, where I think it would have been better off cut down by a few. I was struggling to keep myself engaged during parts of this as nothing interesting was really happening. Paak’s performance ... read more
These boys just can’t miss. While obviously not being as good as the masterpiece that is The Queen Is Dead, I thoroughly enjoyed this. It has that same jangle pop sound with some gorgeous guitars that I can’t get enough of. Morrissey kills it on the vocal side as usual, like obviously fuck him but what a voice. I feel like a couple of these tracks do drag on a bit but the instrumentation is so great that I don’t really mind. This doesn’t seem like a debut at all either. ... read more
While not as focused and masterfully produced as Quadeca’s next record, From Me To You feels like a necessary step in his evolution from “Youtube rapper” to a fully formed artist. I’m waiting to explain my history with Quadeca and his music until the i didn’t mean to haunt you review, but he’s an extremely important artist to me. This is technically a concept album however that concept does get a little lost as it’s only really talked about on Sisyphus, ... read more
In the only 35 minutes this thing lasts, Simz is able to create such a cohesive and beautiful record. From her aggressive flows on tracks like Offence or Boss, to her jazzier side on tracks like Selfish and Flowers, she makes one of the most consistent albums I’ve heard in a bit. The flow of this album is amazing too with every song going into one another relatively seamlessly. Simz is such a great rapper. I don’t think she gets the credit that she truly deserves. This is basically just The Chronic 2: Now With 90% More Snoop Dogg!! Hey I’m not complaining though. It obviously doesn’t quite reach the heights that The Chronic does, but if you’re looking for more of that sound this is the perfect place to go. The G-funk aesthetics are really nice, I love how chill sounding this whole scene was at the time. The flows from Snoop are so smooth, especially on tracks like Lodi Dodi. The features are great too. They feel like one big group of ... read more
NOTE: This is only for the second disc. My review of the first disc is under the main album.
So this was more of what I wanted out of the main album. It obviously has a similar sound to folklore, which I can’t complain about. Just overall more diverse and interesting than the main album. Also there were a few terrible lines that I saw before even listening to this half of the album, but those are really the minority. There were only like 2 or 3 of those on this whole disc.

I’m not gonna deny at all that there are some cringy lines. There aren't that many super catchy melodies either. After my second listen I went back to folklore and it made me realize that this lacks as many super interesting moments that stick with you. (Even though folklore is probably a bad example because of just how good it is). There’s just something that won’t let me dislike this album though. Maybe I am just in denial as I wanted to love this going into it, but ... read more
