Geese - Getting Killed
50

Inventive music for the guy who walks into the record store and before even looking around asks, "do you guys have The Strokes?".

As much as I want bands to come back, I'd rather listen to girly pop or be shot in the face than listen to some day-trader who's never even been to Brooklyn tell me how good Geese are.

Mother Love Bone - Apple

Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
91

Bar none, the coolest anyone has ever looked is Marvin Gaye on the cover of this, and then he just absolutely tears it up with one of the greatest vocal performances ever over an onslaught of sensual vibes that yearn to be blasted at max volume.

Donny Hathaway - Donny Hathaway Live
89

Pixies - Come on Pilgrim
83

A really fun quick hit of the sound that would go on to cement the Pixies as one of the most important bands of the late 80s. Right from the get-go this thing explodes, erupting with that unpolished chaos that doesn't necessarily get more polished as time goes on for the band, but the bone machine of this is evident across their landmark follow-ups.
