Stevie Wonder - Stevie Wonder's Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants
70

Moving into uncharted territory here as I have not heard anything from Stevie Wonder from here on out save for a few songs here and there. That said while it did feel a bit scattered to me at points and didn't quite have the cohesion that the last handful of albums had, I found out that this is more of a soundtrack than a studio album so maybe that wasn't the point. However what is here is pretty solid

Really does sort of build on a lot of the ideas from Innervisions and while I do prefer Innervisions, I still really loved this album. I especially liked some of the darker moments like They Won't Go When I go which provides some really interesting sense of melancholy to the record that I'm not used to with Stevie. Really really good, I'm going to have to revisit this for sure

I mean COME ON
Stevland really came in bringing the sauce with this one and it's crazy because I know Songs In The Key Of Life is even better somehow but I still think this is pretty much a perfect album. The phaser on the vocals paired with the odd chord movements and the "doo doo doo" background vocals on Too High create this surreal and funky vibe that is just incredible, Visions is a wonderful ballad with these poetic lyrics about the world he wants to see, and the instrumental on ... read more

Stevie Wonder - Talking Book

I initially dismissed this album thinking "people probably just like it because it's the one that has Superstition on it" but yeah Stevie's cooking on this one. A lot of these lyrics are definitely getting a little more political than on previous albums. While that has been present for a while in his discography it's becoming more noticeable here, at least to me. Also it sounds like there's some pitched up vocals on the second track? Not a bad thing by any means, I think it sounds ... read more

Incredible. If I wasn't already Wonderpilled before this I certainly am now. Once again both amazing opening and closing tracks. The lyrics really come through on a lot of these love songs that just feel so genuine and it's all just executed at such a high level

Stevie Wonder - Where I'm Coming From
73

LET'S GOOOOO MORE FUNK!
Really solid and great dynamics. I think this album has the best closing track so far. Stevie is really coming into his own style bringing his Motown roots into the funk and r&b sounds he's playing with and it comes out into a pretty solid mix on here. As far as I'm concerned we are entering Stevie Wonder's imperial era. I am so excited to get into this batch of records

Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed & Delivered

The clavinet is back and he's getting funkier with it and he's really getting into it vocally. That cover of The Beatles' We Can Work Out is something I didn't know I needed until now. Really getting hints of what's to come

Stevie Wonder - For Once in My Life
75

Is that a clavinet I hear? I wonder if he'll use that more in the future. The opening track is especially great

Stevie Wonder - My Cherie Amour
65

Some great tracks on here but lots of filler. Again not bad, just ok. If you told me Stevie Wonder did a Doors cover I would not have believed you

Stevie Wonder - Eivets Rednow
60

It's another instrumental album but with way more harmonica. Which isn't a bad thing, he's incredibly talented at the instrument and is really flexing that here but I don't see this being a project I return to very often

Stevie Wonder - I Was Made to Love Her
65

Feeling a lot more blues on this one. Overall interesting to hear but the sound didn't click with me as much as the last couple albums. Not bad though

Stevie Wonder - Down to Earth
73

A lot of what worked about the last album is here but with maybe more ballads. Again pretty solid

Stevie Wonder - Up-Tight
74

A bit inconsistent in a few spots but overall this has a level of energy that the previous albums lacked. The title track rips honestly. This is the first one where I'd say it was pretty great. The title track rips

Stevie Wonder - Stevie at the Beach
45

Hey his voice is a little bit lower here. Also were the mixes on the previous albums this bad? I don't remember them being this bad. His harmonica playing is solid as always but for whatever reason here something about it just feels unnecessarily loud and a lot of parts of this just feel muddy. I'm not sure if this was a problem with the previous albums and I'm just now noticing it here. At this point the Stevie I'm used to cannot come soon enough

Stevie Wonder - With A Song In My Heart
55

I feel pretty much the same about this album as I did the last one. Not the worst thing in the world but I don't see any real appeal other than the novelty of hearing such a young Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder - Tribute to Uncle Ray
50

It's fine. Apparently this was actually recorded when he was 11 before the previous album. He definitely was a talented vocalist even back then but at the end of the day it is just a bunch of Ray Charles covers which is kinda fun but there's not really a ton of reason to return other than for the novelty of it

Stevie Wonder - The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie
60

Let the Stevie Wonder deep dive commence!
I had no idea what to expect going into the debut album knowing he was 12 at the time with his stage name being "little Stevie wonder" and dang it if this debut isn't a vibe. While this is far from the heights that I know he's gonna reach later on, it's obvious that Stevie has always had immense talent from a very young age and I was really impressed that he was able to do stuff like this at age 12. Not a ton else to say other than just some ... read more

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life

This album is so amazing and I think showcases everything that makes Stevie such an incredible artist. I mean really there's a little bit of everything in here to where none of the songs sound exactly the same and yet every moment feels like a part of a whole, expanding the experience bit by bit. At the beginning we're greeted with these warm and inviting gospel choir vocals and I can't help but be instantly hooked and pulled in. From there I'm put on a journey that feels like the perfect blend ... read more

About a year ago I decided that I needed to check out more hip hop because I had more of a blind spot for the genre than I wished I had. This was one of the first ones I checked out and to be honest on first listen I found it to be overwhelming. There was so much going on and it was so dense I didn't know how to properly digest it all. However as I started listening to other albums and got more of a feel for the genre (of which I'm still far from being fully well-versed in), I found that I kept ... read more

One of my all time favorite electronic albums. BOC are masters of the synthesizer and they really know how to create an atmosphere. Are there some days where I would rather listen to the darker and more complex Geogaddi? Sometimes, but if I'm looking to just sit back and vibe, it doesn't get much better than this
