BROCKHAMPTON - The Family

"We said we'd do this shit for life, now I'm the last one trying"

A soul-crushing farewell from the lonely Kevin.

Thankfully no close calls with this one...

Also, what a progression. It's well produced, the songs are catchy, the lyrics are fun, and there's no piss song! I have huge respect towards pup for being able to publicly express the very sexual and fetishistic side of themselves, and in such great detail lmao. It doesn't bother me at all because the songs are bangers, and most importantly stuff like that is totally ok!!! Mfs gotta stop dogging them out (pun intended) for it.

Low Roar - ross.
80

Beauty and comfort through simplicity and passionate intimacy.

Ryan was a man who travelled. The sights he saw inspired him to write beautiful songs.
And no more were they than songs of love and helpless pain - in other words, songs of life.

Low Roar - Once in a Long, Long While...
70

From dreadful suffering, stems comforting beauty.

When I'm feeling low, so does Low Roar. It speaks to me. It understands and empathises. I reciprocate.

In the end, we both come out feeling better.

Kurt Vile - Square Shells EP
80

With nauseously entrancing, FX-drowned psychedelia as well as adorably heartfelt and intimate folk songs, this tiny little EP of tiny little songs invents for me a whole new emotion.

"I wanted everything, I wanted everything
I wanted everything, but I think that I only got most of it
Think I only got most of it..."

Kurt rambles on and opens himself up; apologising for his wrongdoings, reflecting on the bad times, and hoping to move on from the things he's lost into a better ... read more

Roland Kayn - Tektra

Five hours went by like two. Deep, dark, thick, unnerving atmospheres created by whirring synths and persistent metallic hums. Impeccable and immersive electronic sound design. Mindblowing to consider it was done in the mid-eighties... I tip my hat to the genius and pioneering Kayn.

An album so powerful, so impactful, so intense that I am terrified to listen to it for even a second time. I have never experienced anything like it, not even hearing To Be Kind for the first time as a 14 year old music newbie was as earth-shattering and monolithic as this.

One day I'll listen again and dive deep into the lore. When I do, this behemoth will guaranteed become even greater and more outstanding, which blows my mind.

What the fuck.

When I heard Projector I thought it was great and seemingly full of potential, and I looked forward excitedly to their improvement. But when 3D Country came out a couple months later, it was pretty disappointing to me. They switched their sound so drastically to the point where it didn't work, it didn't feel like their natural element, and everything just blurred together so unmemorably.

I had a little bit of hope for a redemption arc here, but as it turned out it sadly leant even ... read more

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms…

It's a great album, it really is. Some fantastic moments in most of the songs, like the Cancer-Towers-esque atmosphere in track 1, the drums in track 2, the strings in track 3, the brilliant slowburning jam of track 7... but one of them, stands out like a patch of red in a sea of snow.

Thirteen angels, standing guard around the side of your bed.

It feels as if I'm about to die before this song ends. Unsafe, perturbed, like there is something very close by that is actively out for my ... read more

Jim O'Rourke - Live at Banana Hall 1999-07-08

This was an interesting one... lots of ups and downs in one short concert.

The ambient sound collage intro set up a pretty good atmosphere, then the fairly good performance of THIHBMIG kind of dropped that atmosphere but in turn built a new one. This wasn't done nearly as well as the intro to Live in Japan.

In the middle of playing THIHBMIG he made a bad mistake and stopped the song, the crowd laughed, and he took like 30 seconds to recover and carry on. Must be under some kind of ... read more

@LikeClockwork81 and I's first ever release as a duo!

Also, if you listen closely as my vocal track fades in right at the very beginning, you can slightly hear me going "wtf was that" at my previous take. Which is kinda funny. But we did a pretty good job tho I think. :p

This may just be a quick wee cover of a Nick Cave song, but we have completely different (genre-wise) and much bigger plans for our original music. Stay tuned! :)

Vylet Pony - Girls Who Are Wizards

If you like EDM, I urge you to listen to this. It's the best album of the year for me, and one of the most fun and energising listens I've had in a really really long time. I still can't believe I got to witness the premiere, I feel so incredibly lucky because this album genuinely feels like a monolithic achievement both for Vylet and for the genre as a whole.

First things first, the thing I love most about Girls Who Are Wizards is its totally pure ultimate fun. In a world where ... read more

If you believe in reincarnation, it's likely that in a past life this woman was Nick Drake. Her voice is heavenly, the instrumentals are warm and cozy with beautiful guitar work, the whole thing just feels so summery and sweet. New favourite album of the year, I highly recommend.

Favourite tracks: Hello again, Nightvisions, I wish for the rain, Cuckoo

Pink Floyd - The Wall

Thank you @ThePurpleIdiot for showing this to me and telling me the story as I went along. I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much without that. Peak storytelling *, only held back from a 90 by the fact that the actual music itself is not amazing for the most part. **

* Especially when the end loops back to the first song, indicating that Pink never escapes and is constantly rebuilding his wall
** Comfortably Numb absolutely mogs everything tho and has the greatest guitar solo ever
