this album has grown on me a little since the first time i listened to it, but at times it feels like a drag to get through. this is probably björk's most egregious example of her prioritizing the aesthetic over the sound.
favorite tracks: earth intruders, innocence, declare independence.
i think j cole's biggest strength is writing hooks, i really enjoyed the hooks on this album. that being said, i don't think i can justify some of these track lengths. some songs could've been shorter, and it would improved the album. i think he's at his best when he's concise and rapping his ass off, like on "ain't that some shit."
favorite tracks: power trip, ain't that some shit, born sinner.
the album starts strong with the first 7 tracks, but after that, it's a little hit or miss for me. the features are also pretty good, with the exception of deuce poppi, i just think the hook on that song is annoyingly obnoxious.
favorite tracks: told ya'll , b r right, u & me.
nice groove! but i feel like it’s missing the charm her usual songs have.
was not a fan... for starters, the quality in mariah's songwriting has decreased. it sounds like shes trying so hard to appeal to younger audiences and sound "cool." as for the sound, it's decent i guess. it's fine for background music, but that's about it, nothing about it is memorable or stands out, with the exception of like 3 songs. it sounds like a very watered-down mariah album. usually i would be praising her vocals, and while she vocally sounds good, it ... read more
i won't lie, i had low expectations for this album, mostly because her past few albums have been mediocre (“memoirs” excluded). but, i ended up liking this album a lot, more than "emancipation" which im sure is a controversial opinion. on this album, mariah finally steps out of her bubble. she gets more creative musically and finally gets different producers. the sound is fresh, the last time she had a fresh sound was "emancipation." she starts experimenting ... read more
this album is pretty forgettable, the most memorable thing is how pretty her voice is. she’s mostly doing ariana grande cosplay throughout the album which is fine i guess but if i want to listen to an ariana song i would just listen to ariana lol. hope she finds her sound in her next album!
favorite tracks: angel wings, bittersweet, complexity.
i tried to have no expectations for this album because honestly, no album will ever live up to an 8-year wait. that being said, the only thing i wanted was for this album to be better than "testing" and it was! rocky is still experimenting, but i do think the experimentation works better on "don't be dumb" than it does on "testing."
the first half was so classic rocky, it was reminiscent of his mixtape days. the album does decline in quality a bit after ... read more
all the singles for this soundtrack have been so good .... she's taking it.
tbh some of the songs are kind of forgettable. it starts off strong and ends strong tho, it’s just the middle that can be hit or miss. hoping “don’t be dumb” will be better!
favorite tracks: distorted records, fukk sleep, praise the lord (da shine), gunz n butter.
it's fine but i prefer the other mixtapes.
favorite tracks: two wheel drive, tonguetwister.
after multiple listens, this album is just fine for me. it's super inconsistent, there are some really great tracks, but then the next song will be boring or annoying to listen to. on this album rocky shifts his sounds and decides to get more experimental. some things work out, and other things don't. on a positive note he has some great rapping performances on here.
favorite tracks: excuse me, lord pretty flacko jodye 2, wavybone.
i don't like it as much as his mixtape, but it's still pretty good! he experimented a little on this album, which was cool even if i wasn't a fan of everything. this album also feels less cohesive than his mixtape, which is weird because usually it's the other way around.
favorite tracks: love live a$ap, wild for the night, fashion killa.
the flow on this album is so weird im still not sure if i like the flow or not. i definitely preferred the more ambient/atmospheric tracks like “time” and “afterwards” where her vocals really shine. speaking of vocals, she has such a rich tone very nice! wasn’t super huge on the reggaeton tracks but they were still fun.
++100 points for having björk sing in spanish
favorite tracks: time, mequetrefe, afterwords, no queda nada.
this is … fine? idk i don’t really have strong feelings towards this album. after loona broke up i was never interested in chuu’s solo work which sucks because she’s a great vocalist. it’s cute as background music (with the exception of like 3-4 songs) but it doesn’t really do anything special.
favorite tracks: cocktail dress, teeny tiny heart, heart tea bag.
this was .. fine! nothing special but it’s cute and melodic. definitely not the route i was expecting rocky to take. based off this single im not excited for album like other ppl were but who knows that can change.
