The tonal whiplash from this going from Three Feet High and Rising is almost surreal, this is a much darker album. It's an incredible hip hop album for sure and it's interesting how the subject matter of many songs (the state of hip-hop and the music industry in the mid-1990s) and the more minimal beats and more jazz inspired sounds and production makes the album hold up a bit more than Three Feet High and Rising and slightly less dated.

I have been sleeping on this album. I'm very impressed at how good this is. I wasn't too sure what to expect from Eno's debut solo album straight after leaving Roxy Music. I knew it would be a rock album, but wasn't sure how it was going to go.
Eno does this by recruiting a who's who of early 70s musicians whilst also getting them to try out more unconventional sounds and production. I loathe to say it, but this album is very much an 'elevated' glam rock ... read more
A lot of music, but it never felt like it got too tiring. Definitely the best Beatles solo album for sure, although the co-production of Spector is noticeable in the main album, which can sound a bit too polished maybe. I was a bit apprehensive about the Apple Jam section of the album, but those were really good jams that fit right into the album.
Isn't it a Pity (version 1) and All Things Must Pass are highlights for me.
Absolutely beautiful album, with some very personal, gut-wrenching lyrics. As good as the whole album is, for me the highlight is the title track, which is one of my favourite songs from this year. Each time I listen to it, I get a little teary. I guess if there is some slight criticism of the album, it is that the other songs are also good, but the power of the title track can make it stand out a bit to the rest of the album.
2024 highlight for me for sure.
A lot of this for me is that I love the title track. Born to Run just has an energy to it that almost stands out too much from the other tracks. Probably one of my favourite 70s singles. But as an album, this is very much 'oh this is *good* Dad rock.' A very polished, 'classic' album.
