Some of these songs are truly so wonderful and instantly locked inside my mind.
genuinely grating to listen to. even if some of the political commentary is vaguely agreeable, it feels like an impotent child wrote it. its edgy without being thought provoking enough to distract you from the awful sounds you're listening to. at certain points i thought i was listening to some interesting beat or something until i came back down to earth, realizing it went nowhere and the entire 2 minute song is just gonna sound bad. i've never really listened to lil darkie and when ... read more
for me, doolittle offers so much sonically that i absolutely love. it's rare for a project to scratch quite literally every itch for me. its got the right speed, the perfect amount of noise, vocals that are belted at just the right level for me to want to scream along to, and riffs and basslines that get me moving without even thinking. I can always come back to this album and enjoy it almost as much as i did the first time i listened to it. pixies will always be one of my favorite bands ... read more
Haven't used this site in months so I'm catching up on things I missed and I figured to start with julie since I will be seeing them in a few months. I have to say i was pleasantly surprised with how much i enjoyed some of these songs.
no particularly bad songs, and even some that are really pleasant, but it felt a little samey and not very compelling as an album experience. hard to rate this but i think its a fair showing from her
i liked this, more hits than misses but it definitely could have benefited from some fat being trimmed off as 30 tracks is a lot even if they aren't that long individually.
This album is actually phenomenal. I think blur really taps into a niche I cannot help but enjoy. this is pretty much where it's at for me, and this album continuously grows on me every time I come back to it. In the context of the rest of their discography, it's really up in the air for where this ranks. I've seen some coin it as their best, and more who drop it down a peg. If you told me this was your favorite blur album ever, I'd find it hard to really argue against. ... read more
sometimes when i listen to this i feel like a detective smoking a cigarette outside a diner in the pouring rain
It's almost soul crushingly beautiful. So many songs give me the feeling of dread. Almost as though I'm moving towards my death and it can genuinely fill you with dread that makes it feel that much more real. One of the key features that contribute to this feeling is just how slow and drawn out some of these tracks get. There are multiple songs where Robert doesn't utter a word until 3 minutes in, which allows the instruments to build you up and prime you for the hard hitting ... read more
Pleasantly surprised at how good this was. It gives the same feeling that the sunset of a nice day feels. I don't really know how else to describe it in my own words.
Blur sounds good even when it doesn't sound like Blur. There's a few tracks on here that stand out as great points in their discography. She's So High, There's No Other Way, are playlist mainstays, and Sing is good too. Not a bad debut but it doesn't foreshadow how great they would actually become very well.
