Completely different than I Let It In. Which is nice, I never want everything to sound the same. It’s more theatrical and heavier, from beginning to end. These guys have mad talent and it shows that they are not one trick ponies. The atmosphere they create is so beautiful and then they come in with the menacing instrumentation. The hits on this record are amazing. In all honesty, some of my favorite mainstream pop songs in recent years. The lows are terrible but I am not about to let an album with "Future Nostalgia", "Don't Start Now", "Physical", "Levitating", "Pretty Please", "Hallucinate", "Love Again", & "Break My Heart" get dragged down too much.
Gore sounds nothing like a Deftones album that is expected to sound like almost 20 years into their existence. It is similar Chino’s various side projects. Which for me, is not a bad thing.
Gore is somewhat refreshing and undeniably unique from the rest of their discography. It may be rough in some parts, and it seems like it could have used a little bit of attention around the edges for mixing. Saw Deftones live yesterday and holy fuck that was an amazing show. So it is time to review their most iconic album.
Finally breaking free of the nu-metal label and finding their sound on Around The Fur, White Pony is the product of that. I cannot imagine how groundbreaking this album was at the time of its release. I feel like you truly had to live in the moment to understand and appreciate this album to its max potential. Tyler’s best album. Only miss on here is “I DONT LOVE YOU ANYMORE.” Everything else about this album is perfect.
