I'm sad.
Teenage Dads is an Australian indie rock outfit who, despite being on the scene since 2017, only really entered the public conscience in 2021 with their song Cheerleader. They played with this really fun TDCC inspired dance rock there and continued onto their EP shaped album later that year.
2 years on, Teenage Dads come out with an EP after the success of their Presidents of the United States of America-esque shift to tongue in cheek indie rock, but I wish any of that feeling was ... read more
BEJIBLE by BEJALVINS is a concept album about the state of mind of your average Twitch Chatter sitting down to watch a Smash Ultimate stream only to see a Sonic player on screen.
I feel like while this album starts off pretty strong, it ends up running out of tricks in the second half of the album.
The trick between the opening track and BORN MONEY SWAG DIE was a fun little way to throw my expectations of the album sounding like 30 minutes of Unfold by TEED and Porter Robinson only to be ... read more
I'm rocking back and forth screaming "I'm normal I'm normal" as I hit play on Dogsbody for the 3rd time today

Aight Fantano's review is out, time to stop putting this off.
I have not listened to Daughters (and never will), I have not listened to Xiu Xiu, I have not listened to most of the AOTY-core dance punk and noise stuff this album is being compared to, my main point if reference for dance punk are Foals and Franz Ferdinand, and even with just that ... read more
I'm shocked, I did not expect to like this album coming in. I found Gracie Abrams to be a rather bland, uninteresting indie-pop singer without much of an identity that happened to get airplay cause nepobaby, but I think she's starting to find a sound for herself.
The biggest single off this album, Where Do We Go Now was probably the biggest offender of this vibe for me, being an extremely inoffensive indie pop track with a pretty dull chorus that feels like it's ripped straight from Olivia ... read more
This review is moreso about expectations I had that weren't met compared to the actual music, but I feel I needed to vent. Maybe sometime down the line I'll come back to this with fresh ears and give it a less biased listen.
I feel like expectations I got from daine's live shows doomed me to expect something wildly different. I had seen them on the periphery of my feed ever since coming across them tweeting about dropping an EP on the same day as Charli XCX's Crash, but I never actually ... read more
It's some pretty decent stoner metal but doesn't feel like it's got that extra spice to put it over the edge.
Needs about 93 more pigs though
Bro, this album is just fucking fun. Like it's not reinventing the wheel, it's an Austrian band essentially doing Ska-Rammstein with some fun ass violins, but you have an extremely overdramatic, campy as fuck ska cover of Last Christmas on this thing that has violins and an accordian on it, what's not to love?
There's some decent stuff on here but nothing that I'd say brings it out of the camp of "VTuber music" to me. There are three bizzarely short songs for an 11 track album that don't help this album end up all that memorable (all the tracks in lowercase). It's filled with a lot of the standard cloudy bubblegum pop you get from most cutesy VTubers.
The highlights were probably Artificial, a track that amps up the production a little, Happy To Call You Mine, a tribute to her fanbase that ... read more
I really wanted to like this album, it's not badly played or anything, but it feels like the artists don't have that much life or energy to them, like they just don't want to be there. The vocals are delivered with this really passionless delivery, the guitar strums feel weak and lack that punchy staccato offbeat hit. I don't even think I heard them yell pick it up once. It's like they want to be a ska band but are afraid of being labeled goofy or something. The closer Middle of the Pomps os ... read more
I feel like this wasn't anything I haven't heard before somewhere better. Kinda feels like Eichlers but not as interesting. Might give another listen but yeah...
This album was just insanely pleasant to listen to. Might have to give this a second listen but it was just insanely easy to sit back and lose myself in this album. Might go back and give it another listen at some point but this is definitely some fun and easy to listen to soul and jazz music, but it's also not an area I'm very invested in.
God damn how did this end up missing so hard after how good Quest For Fire was. It feels like it starts out with some great ideas, PinkPantheress and Trippie Redd on a track together went WAY better than I ever expected them to especially. Selecta is essentially Skrillex and BEAM doing a Dance Hall track that doesn't suck after whatever that Drake album was last year, and I liked the two Bladee tracks but I haven't listened to enough of him to really *get* it, but after that it just takes a ... read more
This album is just kinda there... P!NK was an artist who I enjoyed growing up cause of her weird quirks in a similar vein to Lady Gaga but with a bit sillier and party than glam. Unfortunately this record makes me understand why I heard no one talk about her since her return in 2017, she's kind of a shell of her former self.
Trustfall opens with a song dedicated to her late father, a really touching if not a little cliche ballad that matches up with absolutely nothing else on the album. The ... read more
I find this album somewhat inconsistent and exhausting to listen to, but there's also stuff on here that absolutely goes hard. As a rhythm gamer, I know Camellia as one of the holy trinity of "the song is going to break my fingers" alongside t+pazolite and xi, but this is my first time listening to Camellia's work outside of a rhythm game.
I think this album is characterised by runs of 2 or 3 songs that go absolutely hard followed by tracks where the main gimmick just kinda doesn't ... read more
This album is wall to wall bangers and I'm so glad he didn't just blow everything on the singles and left tracks like Tears, Hydrate and Still Here to be released with the album. Feels like a celebration if electronic music as a genre, mixing with other modern giants including Fred Again, Dylan Brady and Porter Robinson and only has a few slight moments where it slows down a bit much somewhere between Butterflies and Too Bizzare. Also I kinda wish Siickbrain was featured more on Too Bizzare ... read more
Do you ever hear an artist slowly give into their worst impulses to the point where you just can't take their music seriously anymore?
Hope D is an Australian pop artist who made some buzz with the queer track Second in 2021, a fun little indie rock track that felt like a drugged out Veronicas track, highlighted by this odd little spoken rap breakdown in the bridge. Unfortunately, these weird quirks of her music when stretched out into a whole song tend to create some of the most annoying ... read more
From the perspective of a VTuber fan, this album is really nice, being released as Pheobe decided to stop her activities as a VTuber, it's primarily themed around not letting you be constrained to your past and being excited for your future. There are moments on here that work really well, especially the musical theatre inspired title tracks which I feel suits her really well. I also think Pheobe has a really good singing voice, if not for her trying to sing outside of her own range at times. ... read more
I don't think I can give this a rating in good faith. I kind of swing back and forth between a good and bad faith interpretation of this collection dropping.
On one hand, hearing a bunch of demos from across Flume's career at various stages of completion is a fun time and some of the ideas are fun to think about, but it didn't need to be as advertised on places like Spotify as it is. It's cool seeing that Flume was apparently working on a collab with Injury Reserve or Isabella Manfredi. But ... read more
This came on the radio in the car as I was driving my grandparents home from the pub and I have never been more embarrassed about anything in my life.
