IDK it's more washed out Australian indie rock that's probably gonna make the Hottest 100 top 20. Eyes Ahead opens with a reference to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air intro and that's all I remember from this.
The debut album by Pacific Avenue, while glossy and well played, feels way too soaked in its own influences, namely The Beatles, to really innovate on itself. It's so heavily in its own lane that after about 3 or 4 songs, you've basically heard every idea the album is going to throw at you.
That's not to say it doesn't pull off its Britpop influences well, when it works on tracks like Easy Live, it can feel familiar like a song you've known and loved your whole life. Unfortunatelt it just can't ... read more
NGL, I watched Fantano's Not Good of this album a bunch of times because it's just a classic video at this point, but nothing prepared me for one of the most trite, insudfferable, holier than thou bullshit on the planet that this album actually ended up being. I would say this album is an insight into the mind of someone whose only engagement with music was ome of those big radio stations that only play the Billboard Hot 100 but even when I was a teenager and didn't engage with music outside of ... read more
I remember someone once talking about the "Paradox of Ed Sheeran" in a YouTube video once, I can't remember who exactly I wanna say Alfo Media, and I can't help but feel like Subtract really exemplifies this paradox at its fundamental core. Ed Sheeran at his heart is that silly mate you meet at a pub who sings some okay folk, but he's such a big superstar that his songs have to have the production of a stadium filler pop anthem.
I feel like this paradox is most evident on tracks like ... read more
This album is kinda odd for me, specifically from how it's structured, both sonically and thematically. It almost feels like it's two different EPs slapped together.
The first half feels like this slightly absurdist EP about life and morality, especially after looking up the inspiration for debaser after trying to figure out what the fuck "un chien andalusia" was.
Debaser is a really bright track that starts off with this great bass riff and just has this energy that remains super ... read more
This is a huge step up in terms of quality and skill from Jack Harlow from his 2022 album. Overall, the beats have some actual life to them in a way that encourages Jack to actually have some fire in him back in turn. My biggest issue was that the narrative of the album felt like it clashed weirdly at times, and it wasn't super memorable off first listen.
The opening 3 tracks are probably the highlights of this project, especially Common Ground and They Don't Love It. There's some damn fire in ... read more
This feels like an EP that I should really love, but something's really holding it back, and I think I know what it is. Some of the biggest sounding moments of this album are very drenched in that heavy synth-laced sound of E.MO.TION era Carly Rae Jepsen, but even compared to some of her breakout songs like Blonde, Josh and Symptomatic, I feel like there's this weird lack of confidence coming through on some of the songs on this album. Kinda Famous feels like it's a really forgettable opener, ... read more
I feel like this is very enjoyable for the most part, but there's always just one or two things that feel like it needs a little more bite. The lead melody guitar on Faded feels like it should be soaring but it's mixed just a bit too low to really cut through the otherwise great rhythms of the backing rhythms. There are some places on 666PM that have a similar issue with the lead melody just a little too low. The drums on Listen also feel like they could use a little more aggression to ... read more
I'm gonna be completely honest, the majority of this album feels like it's plagued by the same issue, a perfectly good song with 2 alternating ideas that goes on for 2 minutes too long and makes you feel like you've already heard everything going on with little to no buildup or dynamic changes to what's going on. I remember feeling partway through Breathe or Diesel power "oh god I've already heard this exact idea 3 times already", and not to say it was a bad idea or riff, but it just ... read more
I can't help but feel a little disappointed given how big The Prodigy's name is. I was expecting something more crushing and heavy than the more straightforward sounds that I got on this album. Not to say there's nothing good or interesting, there is a lot of stuff on here that feels more brutal than a lot of breakbeat/breakcore that floats around these days, and god damn the opening track is stellar, but sometimes tracks can feel like they're just getting a touch too repetitive and ruin a good ... read more
Redhook is an Australian pop punk/metalcore that popped off in 2019 with their darker and more metal tinged take on the pop punk genre in the single Paralysed, with that momentum carrying all the way up to a really fun EP, Bad Decisions, in 2021. It was by no means perfect but it was a sound that filled this niche in the pop punk sphere that bands like PUP and Boston Manor fill in their scenes that was missing in Australia.
Unfortunately, since then something has felt off with Redhook's music, ... read more
This is so perfectly stupid I love it but it kinda falls off in the second half IDK there just stopped being as many moments that made me laugh as had as the track being down bad for Bernie Sanders or the Eminem rap about getting turned on by doxxing threats.
To be completely honest, my biggest gripe with this album is just how much of it Bao sings in Japanese rather than English, given I know Bao is an English VTuber, it feels like it takes away from what more vibes that I could be getting from the album.
Bao is one of the biggest names in the indie sphere of English VTubers, and honestly not someone I'd pegged for a musician, but this is honestly not a bad first impression.
The opening track, Citrus Love, which was the only single I was aware of ... read more
I feel like the last track makes this sharp left turn in sound and quality compared to the first three in a way that just kinda jarred me out of the experience, but overall enjoyable jazzy singer-songwriter cuts.
I was initially avoiding this album because I didn't feel like I needed the kind of negativity surrounding everything about it in my life, as well as the rape allegations and what her and her fanbase has done to the victim. Unfortunately curiousity got the better of me.
I initially started the album thinking a lot of the hate was overstated and that she was just making an admittedly bad pandering TikTok pop album. Throughout the first half of the album there's this grandiosity trying to be ... read more
This is actually amazing. wowaka is a name I've heard circulating online anime communities as a revolutionary artist within Vocaloid circles, and also from his sudden passing in 2019. However I'd never really listened to his stuff as I was still not super into Vocaloids as a concept. However I've been seeing his name popping up again lately and decided maybe I should finally check him out and god damn I wasn't disappointed at all. It's one of those rare times where an album absolutely surpasses ... read more
This is really hard to get a gauge on on first listen, it's so ecclectic that I can't tell how I feel about it at times, but I know I enjoyed it. Definitely worth another listen.

Jack Black is truly and icon and has once again created one of the greatest songs of all time.
I don't know what to say about this album at all, it's fucking insane. A concept album that follows the story of a worm that swallows the Earth and the following aftermath for the humans living in the now belly of the world. It's narratively wild and feels like a Terry Prachett novel in the best of ways, with religious sects forming around the worm, men liberating people's spines in hopes of appeasing the worm, and an army of Londoners marching at the end in an attempt to wage what I read as an ... read more
I am cringe but I am free.
Nihmune's first project if the year is a shitpost EP which I actually enjoyed waaaay more than I was expecting given how her shitpost record last year was my least favourite of her three projects.
Keep in mind, this album is absolutely cringe, this album is completely unashamed of the fact it's cringe, but there's actually some really fun music in here behind the cringe.
