An album that would go on to shape indie rock, paving the way for bands like sebadoh, superchunk, pavement, jawbreaker and even nirvana, zen arcade‘s mix of noise, (post-) hardcore and early indie melodies makes it the mother of all alt-rock that should follow.
Title track is perfect, slight dip in quality from there, some songs could‘ve been slightly shortened
While Johnny Thunders would go on to surpass this album later with So Alone and LAMF, the dolls self-titled debut is considered a early punk masterpiece for a reason. It’s as glammy as the cover makes you think it is, and thats always a good thing
Unbelievably good! All the jazzy sounds go so well with Joni’s incredible writing. This is her peak (atleast for now)
Love the Sonic Youth influences on some songs. All in all very solid, some songs are true masterpieces
This album is so bad that I dont even know where to start. First off I‘m disappointed in Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon for stooping to such low levels. I‘m all for experimentation, but this is simply a pathetic grift. Nobody should be surprised that Yoko Ono sucks at art. But not even from her I would‘ve expected a serving of such stinky poop on a plate. I have to confess, I haven’t listened all the way through yet. Great album that I would recommend to most fans of noisy, kinda grungy slacker rock like dinosaur jr or pavement. A lot of songs here are worth relistening like brand new love or pink moon
Can’t really listen to Kraftwerk everyday, but they sure have their moments.
A unique little ep that serves as a true „taste test“ for the minutemen’s great catalog which would shape punk and help lay the groundwork for indie rock
Masterful instrumental work from pretty much everyone on here, machine head really is one of the must hear early 70s hard rock album
Not as good their previous album meat is murder, i just prefer some of the songs on there, but the queen is dead has some of my favorite songs ever as well. Some girls or i know its over are amongst the smiths best, and for different reasons. The closer shows off johnny marrs great guitar play which made me fall in love with the band. The ladder is very bittersweet and melancholic thanks to morrissey`s very intimate writing. I dont always go back to some of the songs of the „weaker“ ... read more
Roy Harper’s debut is very stripped down musically, to a point where the only instrument used on most songs is Harper’s acoustic guitar, which he damn sure can play. The writing on here feels very introspective and almost philosophical at points. It’s a solid foundation for Harper’s great catalog, this albums ideas stay present on his future works
