So many good songs, so well produced, James's vocals are super expressive. The last third is a little weaker but still holds up decently. Enter Sandman is their most popular song for a reason it is really really good. My Friend of Misery is easily my least favorite because of the lyrics (annoying), and it was originally supposed to be an instrumental which would have worked better.

I want to like this so much but the production is so so so so so bad. I know this album already gets criticized a lot for the nonexistent bass and puny snare but it needs to be criticized more. This is one of Metallica's most pessimistic and heaviest lyrically, and there are a ton of great riffs and crushing lyrics. It's just missing an element of heaviness that their other albums had. Peak thrash. The Thing That Should Not Be is a tiny tiny bit weaker, and I used to hate it, but I enjoy it a lot more now. Just wish it was a little less repetitive. Every other song is a certified hood masterpiece, and Disposable Heroes might be my favorite metal song ever.

Complaints: For Whom The Bell Tolls is too short and straightforward, Escape's verses are a little uninteresting, the album focuses too much on repetitive mental health themes in the middle of the album, and its not as cohesive thematically as Master of Puppets. Everything else is amazing. Amazing tone, amazing multi-phased songs, amazing riffs.
