Always loved this one. Managed to deliver a consistent string of bangers (expect for Friday 13th that one is just ok sorry) in a relatively short 11 tracks compared to something like the bloated Humanz. Seriously, I play nearly every track here constantly, years after its debut. Not as narratively cohesive as compared to something like Plastic Beach or The Mountain but as implied by its very concept and title, this is rather just a phenomenal collection of bangers.
This is just a vibe through and through man. Yeah, it's not Gorillaz's most deep project or anything but I don't understand the stigma this album tends to have online. I was just having a good time throughout this thing as the sounds and texture the album created had me feeling like I was just chilling in a pool of pure funky bliss. Plus, Souk Eye is seriously Gorillaz's best closer track and one of their best songs in general.
Again, nothing mind-blowing, but I don't ... read more
Gets repetitive and samey at many points but this reminds me a ton of Trilogy which was great to hear. That gothic synthwave is what drew me to him in the first place so hearing more of that is fantastic, even if some of the oomph from that trilogy is still missing. Still though, a great step in the right direction.
As per usual, Bruno Mars voice is lovely. But its all in service of an album that's way too short and way too safe. No single song here excites me or makes me wants to jump out of my chair and dance. There are moments of that on here, but whatever moments those amount to can't save this from being a pretty boring listen throughout. Sadly, after all this wait, I'll forget I even listened to it by the morning.
Excels when creating new original pieces of music but falls flat on its face with its pants down when attempting to recreate the soundtrack of the original.
Some of the greatest Kanye songs are on here but man there are a decent couple that are either fine or just straight up annoying like obviously Drunk and Hot girls.
I Wonder is the greatest song ever though my god that one is straight up magic.
Sounds a bit dated now but god damn now this is how you sample Daft Punk (cough cough Drake). The beat is crazy and Kanye is going off with some of his best bars I've heard on the album it comes from. Just a nostalgic banger all around.
Adore the groove and Bruno's vocals are lovely as always. But it feels a little too basic for my liking and some of the backing vocals are kind of corny. A good track regardless though and I'm excited to hear what's next from Bruno after such a long time.
Christ, this album has an insane amount of character. Its insane how many songs on this instantly announce their presence and purpose seconds within them starting up. I dont even have to name off the number of classic bops present here.
What stops the album from being a perfect 10 are really the other songs. You know the ones. The ones that aren't as remembered. They set up the beginning and the ending of the album insanely well but outside of that, they are a bit forgettable, at least ... read more
Wow this was really weird but a pleasant listen! Its unlike any of the previous singles and builds a great atmosphere. However, IDLES adds nothing and might as well not have been here. They could have been replaced by literally any other artist as they are not playing into their strengths at all. Still though, liked this one!
Their unwillingness to stay complacent with their sound and their continuous drive to constantly push themselves forward is what continues to drive me to this band. What masterful chambers of sounds and singing here. Makes both tracks certified bangers.
I don't know what to say other than holy shit what an insanely boring and bland listen this was. I wanted to skip so badly on pretty much every track. Like it doesn't sound terrible, but there's just nothing to latch onto. Every song sounds like a draft. Like a placeholder for the song that will sound more fleshed out later.
Dracula was good though.
Fun! A lot of energy to this one. Still not a super duper huge fan of this and the previous one but this made me hopeful that this album will be at the very least fun, and not boring like Cracker Island.
The best track off of Breach. Electrifying instruments and a wonderful vocal performance make this the best Twenty One Pilots song ever honestly.
I initially rated this at a 96 years ago. I've now deleted that rating because I've noticed that ever since that first listen, I haven't returned to this much at all. And I think, that deep down, I know why. I genuinely can't bring myself to relisten to this. It was one of the first pieces of indie rock I had ever sat down and listened to. The soaring instrumentals, passionate vocals, dreamy progression, everything spoke to me. But since then, I've listened to so much ... read more
