Stormzy - This Is What I Mean

Stormzy's "This is What I Mean" is a record that I knew would be polarising before it dropped, due to the lack of formidable bangers in the rollout of soft and downbeat singles (a hard sell for those who get the most enjoyment out of Stormzy's grime and trap material).

He's been no stranger to showcasing his love for R&B and neo-soul but they've been often shoulder-to-shoulder with other genres, so there was always that versatility to shake things up and appeal to different ... read more

Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar - The Hillbillies

This is perhaps the most fun I’ve had listening to Keem and Kendrick together, as they extend their catalog with another song that showcases their one-of-a-kind chemistry.

Given how “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” was such an emotionally hefty and soul-baring record, it’s nice to hear Kendrick be completely light-hearted and eccentric.

Here’s to hoping they goof around like this more often with even weirder detours.

Wow, Kevin came right out the gate with a wild, unpredictable banger!

This song is downright messy and a breakneck onslaught of ideas, quite like the album art, but it is all exciting from start to end.

I’m really interested to see how “THE FAMILY” pans out and if we’ll hear solo cuts from the other BH members (like a final statement from everyone mixed with some collective material).

Either way, loving the bold, uncompromising presence of this track. You can tell ... read more

Dave - We're All Alone In This Together

Two years after the widely loved “Psychodrama”, UK hip-hop artist Dave returned with his follow-up, “We’re All Alone In This Together” (with quite a beautiful cover art, might I add).

My expectations may have differed in comparison to others, as I’m aware of how incredibly talented Dave is and his album highlights never cease to amaze.

However, “Psychodrama” is one of those albums that never seemed to resonate with me on the whole. The ... read more

Kelela - Washed Away

Kelela’s back! Ironically, I remembered her a couple of days before hearing “Washed Away”, hoping that she’ll be coming out with new material in the near future.

“Take Me Apart” was a great debut release and given that it’s been 5 years since, I’m really interested to see where her mind is sonically at now and how her sound’s evolved.

As a single, I’ll get my nitpicks out the way - “Washed Away” does take a while to get ... read more
