Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered.

Very good, just not groundbreaking.

Best Songs: 02, 05, 07

Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein - Stranger Things, Volume Two

If you want to see my opinion on this and the first vol, go to the other vol for the review :)

Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein - Stranger Things: Volume One

Holy shit this album. Some of the most glorious retro synths I've heard since the Blood Dragon soundtrack, combined with some of the darkest, moodiest atmosphere I've heard in a long time. Add on top of that the emotions tied to the songs because of the scenes they correlate with in the show, this is one of the best albums I've heard all year. Also, the Prophet VS is a beast.

The Weeknd - False Alarm
45

Thoroughly unimpressed. This is a generic as it gets, I feel like I've heard this song 1000 times already.

Edit: The music video was cool as fuck though

Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
89

This album is fucking BANANAS holy shit. This album is so weird and off putting at times, yet it fucking matches Brown so well it is just so good to listen too. Hip-Hop AOTY for me so far.

Best Songs: All of them, Standout is Really Doe, SOTY for me

Worst Songs: None

Drake - Views

Goddamn, this album got off to such a flyer, the first 7 tracks are fucking fire, each one has interesting beats and Drizzy isn't intolerable like he sometimes can be. The HUGE problem with this album is that there are still 13 tracks to go on the album! Only a handful of these are actually worth listening to more than once, and they actually detract the enjoyment from some of the earlier songs because they sound way to similar. In short, if this was only 10 tracks long, this would be my ... read more

The Weeknd - Starboy

I have come to peace with the fact that Abel will never go back to the Trilogy sound, so this is the next best thing. His voice kills it of course, but this beat is absolute flames! It has so much emotion, yet is almost a banger, it's crazy. I immediately had to check who produced this track and lost my mind when I learned it was Daft Punk, pretty much the last guess I would have made. But kudos to them for stepping out of their comfort zone and absolutely killing it. All in all, this track has ... read more

Vince Staples - Prima Donna
75

Although this is a high-quality album, because I rate Vince as god-tier nowadays, I couldn't help but feel disappointed.

Best Songs: War Ready, Prima Donna, Big Time

Worst Songs: Smile, Loco

86

Absolutely beautiful, a one-of-a-kind experience.

Best Songs: Theme, Fkn Dead, Never Catch Me, Coronus, The Terminator, Siren Song, Turtles, Ready Err Not, Descent Into Madness, Obligatory Cadence, Your Potential//The Beyond, The Protest

Worst Songs: Cold Dead

Vince Staples - Hell Can Wait
85

Very impressive EP, my personal introduction to Vince and suffice to say I was blown away.

Best Songs: Fire, Hands Up, Blue Suede, Limos, Feelin' The Love

Worst Songs: 65 Hunnid

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
88

I don't usually dig stuff released before the 90's, but this is fucking awesome.

Best Songs: Breathe, Time, The Great Gig in The Sky, Money, Eclipse

Worst Songs: Brain Damage

Portishead - Dummy
94

I love the experimental production on top of hip-hop drums, super cool combination. Also, the lead singer fucking kills it on every song, really good album.

Best Songs: Mysterons, Wandering Star, Numb, Roads, Glory Box

Worst Songs: It Could Be Sweet

El-P - Fantastic Damage
92

Coming here after listening to RTJ and Cancer 4 Cure first was really interesting. Although the production on the previously mentioned projects are more polished, I feel the abrasive, rough beats actually fit El-P's flow and delivery much better.

Best Songs: Fantastic Damage, Deep Space 9mm, Tuned Mass Damper, Delorean (Aesop on the track was a pleasant surprise!), The Nang, The Front, The Bush & The Shit, Stepfather Factory, Constellation Funk

Worst Songs: Dead Disnee

J Dilla - Donuts
88

It's motherfucking Donuts man!

Best Songs: All of them, standout of course being Time: The Donut of the Heart

Worst Songs: None

Shabazz Palaces - Black Up
92

Very different kind of hip-hop album, awesome beats throughout, really cohesive project as a whole. Also, because of these song titles the best/worst songs section is gonna be a bitch to write.

Edit: Oh boy this album is a massive grower, definitely the best hip-hop album of 2011, and one of my faves this decade.

Best Songs: Free Press and Curl, An Echo From the Hosts That Profess Infinitum, Youlogy, Endeavors From the Never (the Last Time We Spoke You Said You Were Not Here. I Saw You ... read more

Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine
72

My first impressions of this album are very good. Got some Malibu vibes from this, which is awesome. I honestly didn't think Mac could pull off a full album of songs like this, but apparently he can. Very solid album overall.

Best Songs: Dang!, Stay, Cinderella, Favorite Part, God is Fair, Sexy Nasty

Worst Songs: Planet God Damn

Edit: Also just realized why I enjoy this much more than a lot of Mac's other projects - it's not ridiculously long and it doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Edit 2: ... read more

Grimes - Visions
60

At times this is a very catchy album, but unfortunately not very often.

Best Songs: Genesis, Oblivion

Worst Songs: The rest

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree
87

One of the most haunting albums I have ever heard.

Best Songs: Jesus Alone, Rings of Saturn, I Need You, Distant Sky

Worst Songs: Anthrocene

Radiohead - In Rainbows
95

Now my third favourite Radiohead project behind Kid A and OK Computer.

Best Songs: 15 Step, Nude, All I Need, Reckoner, Videotape.

Worst Songs: None

Edit: Upon revisiting this album many more times, it is much, much better than I originally thought. Also, All I Need is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs of all time, the build up to the explosion at the end is so satisfying.

Anderson .Paak - Malibu
82

Suuuuuuper chill album, nice to put on in the background while you're doing something else.

Best Songs: Heart Don't Stand a Chance, The Waters, Put me Thru, Light Weight, Come Down.

Worst Songs: Your Prime
