great song but taken down a couple points because of the godawful annoying formant vocals at around 7:20
Full disclaimer: I don't listen to metal very frequently, and I'm fully aware that real metal fans judge Sleep Token extensively. And for their newer work, I think they have good reason, but people sometimes forget that before they leaned fully into their current horny pop-metal aesthetic, they created some genuinely beautiful work. This Place Will Become Your Tomb is a deeply emotional album that perfects Sleep Token's melding of metal instrumentation with dark ambience, with ... read more
An incredibly long, electro-rock cover of what was originally a trap beat. And somehow it works perfectly. This song is a six-minute journey through expansive soundscapes and epic instrumentation. This is without question the best playboi carti track in history, mainly because he isn't on it.
This EP is an incredibly consistent blend of indie electronic and singer/songwriter soundscapes. There isn't a single miss on the tracklist, and the two artists' styles meld together incredibly well. One of my favorite projects from ODESZA yet.
What a fucking journey. This album has incredible production, arrangement, and atmosphere. Everything I could want from a modern ambient/IDM album.
85 -> 75. This grew off me quite a bit after I actually started listening to other metal bands.
A fantastic debut. Incredible lyricism, vocal performances, and atmosphere. My only complaint is it can get a little stale over the course of a long album that doesn't change up the vibe too much, and the guitar work can be underwhelming. But the incredibly vulnerable songwriting, phenomenal production, and the sheer emotion that they put into their work more than make up for this ... read more
A perfect blend of old and new sounds, and overall a brilliant third album from Skybreak.
Favorite songs: Street garden, Antimatter
A beautiful farewell to an unheralded talent that we lost far too soon.
This is the embodiment of "happy beat, sad lyrics" and it's also one of the most underrated songs ever written.
This is just solid TOP. A blend of basically all of their sounds up until this point, but with a darker aesthetic. My only complaint is the lyrics in the chorus are a bit dumb, but still a great song. I’m so hyped for the album.
From a band that I usually like comes an album that can only be described as horny pop music wearing a metal costume it bought for 20 dollars at Spirit Halloween. Sadly, Sleep Token are a shell of their former selves, trading in deep lyricism and dark, emotional instrumentation for incredibly forced genre fusions and the most unnecessarily pseudo-sexual and frankly TikTok sounding lyrics I’ve ever heard. This album does have good moments, but they’re vastly outnumbered by its many ... read more
This song was playing when my car was T-boned in an intersection and flipped three times
“I DON’T NEED THERAPY, I HAVE PORTER.”
- Me, probably
I’m finally writing a review for my favorite album of all time, Porter Robinson’s sophomore record Nurture. I was introduced to Porter through Goodbye to a World, which went viral on TikTok a few years ago. I was struck by how epic the introductory segment of the song was, and how emotional it was overall. This was the beginning of an obsession for me which hasn’t fully died down to this day. After ... read more
This artist sounds like if Sufjan Stevens used a lot of heavy distortion, and I mean that in the best way possible. This album floats from breathy vocals to heavily distorted sound and back again with incredible ease. This is overall a beautiful modern folk record, with one of the best blends of acoustic and electronic noises that I’ve ever heard. I can confidently recommend this album to basically anyone.
Emergence wasn't that bad.
This is.
"Stick to me like caramel" is such an overbearingly stupid line that even if the rest of the song was perfect, I wouldn't be able to rate this more than an 80. But it's altogether incredibly bland, almost robotic, and the quick transitions from chiller metal to death screaming were jarring to the point where I literally laughed at them.
This is not it.
This is the most ethereal, emotional, and probably the best progressive house song of the year. The absolutely stacked list of producers more than pays off, with one of Fred's best tracks to date.
This is my favorite Fox Stevenson song to date. It's emotional, well-written, the mix is clear and loud, and the production is insane. I'm not the kind of person to cry to drum and bass, but if I were to, this would be the song.
Although I love Jaron's bright, emotional brand of glitchpop, this album has a couple of glaring flaws I can't overlook. Firstly, it's a bit overproduced. It's too noisy and distorted, and would benefit from the style being toned back a bit. Second, his rap-singing is a lot worse than it was in his last album. Especially on Pieces (he is cooking broth). This is only made worse by knowing that he can genuinely sing quite well.
With that being said, this album has some high ... read more
This is some of the best glitch-pop ever produced. An ethereal blend of perfect harmonies, unique samples, and glitchy effects, coming together to create a listening experience like no other.
Just go listen to it now.
Please.
