Literally did a double-take because I thought I accidentally hit play on an Every Time I Die album. I mean this in the most complimentary way possible. While I hope that this band can distinguish itself from its obvious influence with future releases, this is an extremely solid album and deserves a listen, especially for those who, like myself, miss ETID.
Somehow, I Don't Want to See You in Heaven manages to be both more and less approachable than Celebrity Therapist. It feels like the perfect combination of what has come before with all of The Callous Daoboys' influences on open and proud display while, at the same time, they have never sounded more like themselves. This album goes hard when it needs to and slows down to hit you with tenderness at all the right times, and, despite the impressive genre gymnastics all over this thing, ... read more
Genuinely floored by the quality of this and the consistency of these guys. They keep getting better. Literally leaps and bounds ahead of anybody else in “mainstream” deathcore 💀
More cohesive and overall even more interesting than the first Memorrhage album which was already great in its own way! Highly recommend for any of you who are little nu-metal freaks like me.
Ulcerate just cannot miss in my book. Stare into Death and Be Still definitely hit me on more of an emotional level, but this might as well just take the Death Metal of the year cake right now.
This sounds like nostalgia but a breath of fresh air at the same time. It’s really clicking for my brain. I’m a teenager again and it’s not a phase mom!
as an old ass who has been listening to metalcore for like 20+ years, I gotta say that new metalcore shit nowadays really f*ckin slaps bro
Easily my favorite album from this project yet! The heavy lean toward prog metal just works (those unhinged saxophone licks oof), and it's the cleanest Ὁπλίτης has sounded so far which just makes this so interesting and worth repeating.
A genuine improvement in every way over the (already great) Girl's Reform Manifest- definitely the fun summer metalcore bangers I needed!
Current ratings on this are a sin. Everything I love about Mirror in Darkness with even sharper chaotic hardcore fangs. My body was not ready!
The unique artwork for each track is a nice touch too.
The first great album of 2023 is here and it's only the first week of the year!
This is a spawn of the sort of beauty through ugly dissonance thing that I love about projects like Serpent Column and the recent works of Plebian Grandstand but with a very definite "deathened" approach instead of the blackened mathcore you find in the aforementioned's discography. It leads to the most hideously destructive, but riffy and catchy poop-your-pants-fest I've heard in a hot minute.
