"Sling" is a reflection of the fame that Clairo has acquired through the past years, and is enhanced by the reflective period of the pandemic.
Dealing with themes of motherhood, her love life, and her need for certainty in her life, she accompanies all of this with her signature "bedroom pop" sound but now more refined and a bit more experimental within the boundaries that she has set for herself as an artist. All of this accompanied by the most deep heart-wrenching lyrics ... read more
"Immunity" is an Indie pop masterclass of an album.
The reflection process, of her love life and her new-found sexuality, that Clairo goes through on the entire project is well accompanied by the slow, ambient, indie pop sound that she plays so well into. While minimalist in the production, this album doesn't feel empty or boring, she plays into those moments of silence in the songs and the whole album feels like she is having a conversation in her head. Also, "Sofia" ... read more
"Cigarettes After Sex" is great, but the songs start to mix and feel like one huge track. Yeah, the "dream pop" "slow core" ambient" sound is great, but at least make it a little interesting to differentiate each tracks
"PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE" is an amazing helping of alt-pop from top to bottom.
Divided into three acts Redcar goes through the different emotions and experiences, ranging from grief, to heartbreak to the difficulties of dating as a trans man, and companies the record with some really hunting vocals, weird and extravagant production choices, and jumping from genre to genre and keep the listening experience interesting and captivating. I feel that "True Love" is the ... read more
"La vita nuova" is a melancholy-filled experience.
This album has really solidified "Christine and the Queens" as an artist that's, in my opinion, truly ahead of their peers in terms of concept, lyricism and musical production. From really sad lyricism like in the opening track "People, I've Been Sad" to the reduced synth-pop heavy production of the entire project, which is a departure from the past two projects. "La vita nuova" is a new ... read more
"Chris" is another synth-pop helping from Christine and the Queens.
While this album is centered on "Chris" and this more male/androgynous persona that he has created, I feel like the lyrical content doesn't stray too far from what his debut album offered, but now it's being amplified/intensified by this more masculine side of him.
A decent synth-pop album with some great melodies and pop songs, but I would've liked it to push a little more to set this ... read more
"Chaleur Humaine" is a "coming of age" type of album and an excellent first introduction to who he is as a musician.
From the 80s synth pop minimalist production to the lyrics reflecting on his queer experience and the battles that have come with it. Most of the songs have this ambient feel to them, but have just enough interesting aspects to keep you pulled in to the music as well as the lyrics. Chaleur Humaine" feels like a deep warm hug to the heart, which is such ... read more
"Ungodly Hour" is one of the best, if not the best R&B album of the 2020s.
The excellent album cover represents these two women's angelic voices, which is a great visual representation of what the album sounds like. The amazing harmonies in the "Intro" blend so well into the next song, "Forgive Me." Their voices blend and harmonize together so well that each track is a pure example of how incredibly talented this pair is.
The incredible title track ... read more
"Trouble In Paradise" is what Chlöe's debut should've been.
After last years "In pieces" released, I thought Chlöe would take some time off to reflect on the album and what made it so underwhelming, but a little more of a year later, here we are.
In "Trouble In Paradise" we see a more well represented Chlöe in music, the songs really work well to her sexy, soulful persona she has been crafting this last couple of years, and her voice ... read more
"In Pieces" is a disappointing debut from Chlöe, especially after scrapping the four singles she released before the album.
The album starts great, "Someone's Calling (Chlöe)" "Pray It Away" "Body Do" and "I Don't Mind" are great songs, albeit with their flaws, but nothing too bad that take away from the songs, Then we crash, and the album loses any sense of self, and she starts doing this wacky interludes. girl, what are ... read more
Brat review and it's the same but there's three more songs to score so it's not
"BRAT" is Charli's best project and 2024 AOTY! Charli takes advantage of her niche pop star personality and brings it up to a 100!
First the cover, she was so smart to create this album cover, not only for the reasons she said about pop fans feeling "ownership over female artist", but because it's so self-referential of Charli's atypical pop star persona, so simplistic, so "bratty". I mean, the whole internet went up in flames over a simple green ... read more
"CRASH" is a little bit of a step back in terms of Charli's music. The tracks are really fun, but it doesn't feel like an album that the same Charli from "how i'm feeling now" would put out
There's some really fun songs and some of the best vocal performance that Charli has done. I feel like if we looked at this album without Charli's discography we would have a really solid-pop record, but with Charli's background it just feels not up to par ... read more
"how i'm feeling now" is another amazing and experimental album for Charli, with a reduced list of writers and producers, due to the pandemic, this album turns into a really sentimental, reflective and personal album for her. "how i'm feeling now" takes all the things Charli has learned about music from her previous works and amplifies them to be so much bigger, bolder, but more important, more polished.
The opener Pink Diamond, setting a standard and expectation ... read more
"Charli" accomplishes what I think a self-titled should do, present us with a clear view of what you stand on as an artist. From an amazing assortment of collaborators to the "out-of-the-box" pop sound on so many of the tracks, Charli shows us again what type of music she is here to do.
While I feel like this album definitely has some low point, like using her best track "Track 10" to make this kind of simple pop track, it still shows so much of her versatility. ... read more
"Pop 2" is a mold-breaking and career defining body of work for Charli. In "Pop 2", Charli solidifies the sound she has been constructing in the bast few records, and shows us how she has always been ahead of the curve in so many ways.
From an amazing set of collaborators like: Tove lo, Carly, Caroline, Kim and while not big names in the sense of mainstream, they are some of the biggest driving forces in pop music! Also, the incredible team up that is SOPHIE and A.G. ... read more
"Number 1 Angel" is Charli still refining her music while still putting out pop bangers!! With the label of a "Mixtape" Charli is able to keep pushing this unrestrained "Avant-garde" sound, and keep experimenting without any barriers from a genre label or a "mainstream" expectation.
"Vroom Vroom" is the beginning of a new era and new sound for Charli. Honesty when I heard this project years ago, I didn't get it, but now... my god! This project is so influential to the pop scene and to Charli's music, from SOPHIE'S experimentation in the "Bubblegum Bass" genre, to the beginning of Charli's whole "Club" "Hyperpop" "Pop-y" music. Beautiful work from start to finish!
"SUCKER" is Charli's most commercial sounding album. While I may not have enjoyed "True Romance", that much can appreciate the more "experimental" sound of the album, and while this is not that similar to other electro-pop sounds of the 2010s, it is not the Charli that now we love. Real solid pop album, but there are some big misses in this one.
"True Romance" is a Tumblr time capsule. It really does show you how much Charli has grown and evolve as an artist, you can clearly see the seeds and inspirations she was trying to pull on this record. While it may sound dated and the lyrics might not be the best, the melodies are not bad and really original I would say! It's an enjoyable record, for the most part.
