my god what a star!
chances are you know literally nothing about polish music, especially from the 70s. and to know some random elder woman named renata lewandowska? impossible. literally impossible cause this amazing artist was kinda forgotten even in poland. she made a few gigs back in a day and never released an album. I even asked around my family and no one remembers her. she ended her career before it even started for good, moved to usa and became an interior designer or smh like that. ... read more
I'm confused.
I listened to it right after the release and kinda forgot about this record until now - crazy high #3 year end rank reminded me. And... why is that so high? honestly for a quirky indie rock it's lacking the bite, a couple standouts here and there are too widely spread to make an impression. By any means is it a bad debut, it's just not that characteristic. 'Wet Dream' is a bop tho
Frankie Cosmos seems to concentrate on writing full songs here, not only ideas of the songs like she did in "Close It Quietly". She took her time, reduced (not eliminated tho) the number of short, undeveloped snippets of a song, introduced stronger instumental palette, and in result we have a pleasant indie record! Nice one
comparing to their debut, Stumpwork is lacking one instant banger - something like Scratchcard Lanyard was to "New Long Leg". but generally speaking, Dry Cleaning made a big step forward with this one. solid from start to finish, more variety in the instrumentals, humor and surrealism in lyrics, Florence Shaw's heavy briish accent (with "Can you not?" in Kwenchy Kups I laughed a little), great transitions between the songs. singles kept me kinda lukewarm for the album, but ... read more
Julia Jacklin proves herself to be one of the most solid singer songwriter out there right now. it almost feels effortless. as it's been said, it's not revolutionary, it's not game changing on the indie market, it's simple, solid, with relatable bittersweet lyrics and beautiful vocals. her music always feels authentic, I can just tell by her records that she's the coolest, the most wholesome person to talk with. also, my god, "moviegoer" is a great track.
stoned -> happy accident -> posessed -> idkwntht
wow, what a way to finish the album. I wish first half made such an immense impression on me tho
All Mirrors has a special place in my heart.
Big Time is a beauty, there is for sure true beauty in simplicity. Made me buy a ticket for the nearest Angel’s concert, can’t wait for october
with "waterslide(...)" Porridge Radio and Dana Margolin as a frontwoman cemented their place as one of the brightest indie rock/post punk bands of this new wave. I can imagine it's not an easy task to create such a personality as a young band, yet they succeeded to do so.
I love Dana's emotional, wrenching vocals.
I love the repetitons of certain phrases, this measure was taken before in songs such as "Lilac", "Long", but it's still working here. with these ... read more
I cried, I was speechless, I was touched, I felt hope.
Exceptional ability to write huge statements, hymns with grandiose endings, the lyrical and conceptual side of this project is interesting and promising in the context of upcoming albums. „Preacher’s Daughter” instantly made me a fan of Ethel Cain.
I loved „Beware of the dogs” and I am naturally excited to hear more from Stella.
but
„Lungs” seems to be filled with a lot of good ideas that are trying to cover up the dissapointing thing about this song - a weak melody. and the general vibe is obviously very acrobatic and interesting and I love that she took a risk and stepped away from something similar to her previous work, it just didn’t pay off this time in my opinion.
hot music for hot people, danceability of this record is simply astounding
