This has GOT to be my favorite compilation album I've ever heard.
(P.S. Its the only compilation album I've ever heard)
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE DEEP DIVE #5: SUNG TONGS
When I first heard this album a couple of months ago, I saw it as MAD overrated in AnCo's discography. About every track past the first three, I found weird yet boring at the same time. 2025 VGhost gave it a 35 on his old account (L VGhost boooooo). But upon relisten I have no idea why I disliked it so much.
I don't know if my viewpoint changed because I've listened to the previous albums and appreciate this one more, or if my love for ... read more
Really strong debut right here! Has a great energy to it.
But hey, listen, I'm all for sloppier and more raw mixing and production; in quite a few cases, it adds to the experience. But dawg, the mic clips kinda bad in some of the drops, and it is REALLY hard to look past.
Overall, decent album. Just had to dock a few points for certain dips in quality. I PROMISE I'm not one of those types of people who harp on the mixing stuff, but it's just distracting here
(P.S. The drop in ... read more
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE DEEP DIVE #4: HERE COMES THE INDIAN (preferably called Ark)
This is truly the REAL debut for AnCo. This project is clearly a lot more structured than their previous three, and to be honest, I kinda miss that crazy experimental stuff, but it's probably for the better.
Aside from the drumming being the best and sharpest so far, I really don't have much to say about it. It's a really good transitional point into the Animal Collective of today.
(P.S. Slippi ... read more
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE DEEP DIVE #3: CAMPFIRE SONGS
I listened to this at the nicest time I possibly could honestly. It was like a nice 60 degrees outside, all breezy outside, sun was out but not beaming, it was nice (I know its winter it just doesn't get cold at all where im at).
I would most likely only return to the album for moments like this, but it was a nice and easy on the ears listen. The nature sounds are SO gorgeous.
(P.S. After finding out they recorded all of this in one take on ... read more
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE DEEP DIVE #2: DANSE MANATEE
I went into this with the only expectation that Danse Manatee is the worst full length album in there discography. Which is probably true. But I wouldn't call this a BAD album per se...
I actually find it somewhat enjoyable in the first half. VERY experimental but it has the right amount of energy to keep it entertaining.
But dude the second half is an absolute DRAG to get through, ESPECIALLY with the longer songs. Some of which not having ... read more
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE DEEP DIVE #1: SPIRIT THEY'RE GONE, SPIRIT THEY'VE VANISHED.
(I'm only reviewing studio albums by the band. EPs and solo releases will come later)
This album gave me 2 heart attacks and possibly tinnitus...and I absolutely love it.
The first band that came to mind to do a discography binge was Animal Collective. There are SO many projects they've worked on with such wildly different sounds, I wanna be able to experience it all. Plus they are still a ... read more
Surprisingly my first front to back listen of an A$AP album. I'd say its pretty decent.
All the songs have their moments, but but I am a little underwhelmed from all the hype surrounding this. Though it does make me wanna check out his other stuff.
(P.S. i absolutely ADORE all the art surrounding this release. ESPECIALLY that Punk Rocky single cover. SO tuff)
In my early music listening years, I was the type of guy to say, "Dude, I love Radiohead!! You HAVE to listen to them!! They are ESSENTIAL!" even though I heard half of In Rainbows once and called it peak just so I sound cultured and cool or whatever.
Now that I've grown up past the age of 12, I can say this shit IS peak (how controversial of a take). Every song on here has this strange effect where if I feel a certain emotion, that feeling is amplified times 10. I swear Weird ... read more
I know I've been giving a lot of high ratings, but like cmon..
This may be a bit of a hot take but as of right now, I prefer this album over Discovery. DO NOT GET ME WRONG, I absolutely adore Discovery and is definitely one of my top albums of all time. HOWEVER, when it comes to musical loops, Random Access Memory's feels a lot more emotive and makes for a more immersive experience.
...or is Discovery better?
(P.S. This album makes my brain tickle)
It sounds great!
It's definitely a lot more raw and earthy than their Hopelessness Blues album. I honestly don't have much else to say 😭. It may have to grow on me overtime tho. Expect a new review of this sometime in the future.
(P.S. I find it pretty cool they recorded this in an abandoned building. Makes me appreciate it even more tbh)
I cannot describe how much this album hit right at home for me (But imma try anyway!).
First off, this is some of the most lush and vibrant instrumentation I've personally heard on an Indie/Folk record. All of the instruments blend perfectly into one another, which is honestly shocking from the sheer amount that the lead vocalist plays alone. Instruments like mandolins, Marxophones, singing bowls, and whatnot are very traditional, which gives the tracks that slight old-timey sound to it, ... read more
Solid record for such a short debut. I can tell Amar333 has a lotta potential because these beats are TUFF.
A really sweet and relaxing listen!! I got kinda bored at certain points of the longer songs on the tracklist, but the large payoffs made up for it. Honestly, really underrated album, surprised it's not at 80+.
(P.S. Closer and Space Walk might be some of my favorite electronic songs I've ever heard, they are ETHEREAL)
My MILLIONTH TRILLIONTH BAZILLIONTH GAZILLIONTH listen to this album, I swear.
My favorite pastime is to pretend "My Girls" is an insane deep cut to my friends who don't listen to music often to make me look really cool n smart n stuff.
Even though this is, in my opinion, not Animal Collective's best album, it's my personal favorite just from how truly happy this thing makes me feel. FANTASTIC record right here!
(P.S. MAAAATTTTT)
FIRST ALBUM REVIEW OF 2026!!!!!!!
I want to start this series with an album I listened to as a wee jit, Hello Nasty being the first album that I have ever listened to back in 2022 (I was always a single track person for the longest time).
Lemme tell you I can recite every SOUND this album makes. Intergalactic was my whole personality for a full damn month. I used to be obsessed with this thing freshman year of high school. I used to talk this album up like it fell from space for real...Not my ... read more
