I hang on every word this man sings, over every strum of his guitar. It's all captivating from the start and continues to progress further into the idea this wind of pain displayed so vividly will never calm, but subtly it comforts me at the same time. It does both to veil the world in this somber and dejected feeling, yet at the same time this veil feels so soft and comfortable that you can't mind what happens after you've been completely covered by it. It's slickness regarding the production is amazing, which really accentuate the down tempo energy, from D'Angelo's vocals to how the songs subtly progresses. It moves into a really fun as hell neo-soul album that is ... read more
Welcome to smooth city. D'Angelo makes and leaves a memorable impression of an artist who knows what he's dabbling in, it comes off very naturally, the slick instrumentals and the subtle thumping energy on all of these songs are treats to my ears
Pleasantly earnest like how all the good modern country is
