Perfect. Energetic, danceable, straightforward and at the same time, shamelessly provocative in every single level.
What an eclectic record!
It is not easy task to deliver one hour of music and be able to keep it interesting enough at the same time. In my perspective this album has a solid triumph in that field.
In terms of musical approach the record is a real trip, you are going to find nice folk (Apples From A Tree; Hanging On), electronic vibes (I Wouldn't Want To Say) in line with Bowie's "Earthling" era, post punk (Internal Hourglass Discussion), kind of a soft touch of symphonic rock ... read more
This album is definitely amazing. Manu Chao was just starting his solo career, still embracing part of the unique Mano Negra's sound but at the same time starting a musical search that goes more in his own style. With the time, the mix of different latin rhythms, simple lyrics (with obvious political content), captivating percussions, thousands of samples and little arrangements would end up being his particular stylistic signature. As in mano Negra records you are going to find here a nice ... read more
How can we measure Will Toledo brightness? For sure this guy is one of the most interesting artist from his generation. He is amazingly prolific, He has lyrics that are miles above the average and so far he has been given us very interesting albums (some more successful than others for sure), but yes, it is also true that so far he has no risked much in terms of musical quest. And even when this is not a real problem for most of the artist, for him it could be complicated, because if you want ... read more
What's happening with you people? Initially I was not sure if it was necessary to write some lines about this classic album, but after I read a couple of comments saying things like "decent set of tracks" or "if this album had only sabotage tracks it would be a ten" it is impossible not to write something more fair about the record. I mean I can tolerate different opinions but if you are gonna say this things, at least put some words on it, otherwise is just nonsense.
After ... read more
I grew up listening this album and is incredible how well it's songs have aged. This is a transition album for the band and you can hear the liberties in the composition with every track you listen. Of course you can go for the singles and fall in love with the energy of "So What'Cha Want", but lets agree this track actually is the less surprising track of the album (do not misunderstand me, I love the song). I mean, you have already heard those hard beats and sharp rap skills before ... read more
Hahaha I hate when I want to destroy an album and this finally surprise me. This style is definitely not one of my favorites but the record is fun, is catchy the production is soft and clean, and if the whole purpose of this is to put you on the dance floor, damn! She does it! Anyway, take that sample of "Your Woman" and use it is cheating, that one is totally irresistible. Now I am afraid of getting one her songs stuck in my head. Well played.
Every once in a while the world of music surprises us with an album that literally reaches a level of complexity and beauty the other albums on the market can not even dream about it. Those types of records that you need to listen to with time and a good pair of headphones, hoping to be able to have a glimpse of the world the author wants to share with you.
"Fetch The Bolt Cutters" is giving us the possibility to enjoy one of these superb moments. Precisely now when life it is so dark ... read more
Probably as many of us I ended listening this record after I heard the 2020 version from Makaya McCraven. Actually it is not an easy task to try to really appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the original version, specially taking into account the amounts of musical arrangements that McCraven putted all over the new one.
Anyway, after spinning this one a couple of times and try to really breath and listening what I have here, I finally noticed that the major triumph of the original version ... read more
How brave and full of confidence (or stupidity) do you need to be to try reimagining "I'm New Here" (2010)? I mean, there are thousands of shitty albums out there to try to do something new with them, but no, you decided to choose one of the perfect ones. Ok, it is not an easy task, but let's be honest, McCraven proved his point, He took this perfect album and gave us something new, his own vision of the last Scott-Heron record.
But, even when you need to recognize McCraven did a ... read more
Very nice and easy to follow punk rock. They are not doing anything new, but they sound spontaneous and with zero stress on them. They mock on themselves and on other punk rock bands ("The Four Cliches" is fun as hell) and you can note they were having a good time. Besides that, the guitars are quite impressive. I have not listened the previous two albums, but this one totally worth's the ride.
This is one of the albums you consider to share when someone that is not an spanish speaker ask you for a rock album to know something about south american rock highlights. This four guys were at their top form when they recorded this songs. The album has moments for experimental sounds, ballads, dissonance and also elegant pop songs in an style that never falls far away from the band unique sound. If you know nothing about them, do yourself a favor and start with this album. Maybe you are not ... read more
OMG this has been a long trip. If you are old enough, you were probably there to listen "Is This It" (2001) just when it was released. That was huge man!!! I mean, most of us were really astonished. The last part of the nineties was not exactly thrilling in terms of new music you know, and then suddenly this guys appeared with an album that sounded like nothing at this moment, casual, catchy and apparently totally effortless (and I said apparently because the next records made us ... read more
This is starting to look very very promising. They are not only sounding quite good and focused, they are also showing a very nice progression since the first single. Momentary Bliss is the more simple and direct of this trilogy, effective for sure, but with no big surprises. Then Desolé gave us a more elegant track, hypnotic, soft and catchy as hell. Finally this new one (Aries) change the game again, full of heart felt beats and a guitar in a mood that remind us some of the 80s The ... read more
Come on people!!!
Are we going to comeback to this album in ten years? No way!
Is this album a terrible unlistenable piece of shit? No way!!!!!
Try to see the bright side guys. Finally, after more than 15 years, Green Day quit the American Idiot sound. I have nothing against American Idiot but after five albums doing (more or less) the same, it's incredible to see the guys taking some risks! (even when they are not doing anything revolutionary, I must say).
This one look's like a transition ... read more
