Simple but also very effective.
Nice atmospheres, decent arrangements and a very well define identity. I would have appreciated a little bit more of dynamics, but if you enjoy this type of vibe (exquisitely 90s alt rock in spirit), 29 minutes of the same stuff is not going to be a challenge.
I definitely will comeback to this one.
21 years after their last album, and they still hit pretty hard. Annoying vocals (as it should be), hard hitting drums, noisy guitars, and claustrophobic landscapes. How I missed that combo.
My first "higher than 85" score of the year!
Disclaimer: I have been always very easily impressed by this style (my fault).
The Chicago trio’s second album arrives three years after their debut, this time with Cate Le Bon as producer. The result is a delightful yet deeply revisionist record, trading their previous late-’80s alternative and Sonic Youth-inspired edge for a more shameless late 90s/early 00s indie pop. The influence of bands like Belle and Sebastian is ... read more
Enjoyable but...
The Weeknd’s sixth studio album arrives three years after the release of Dawn FM, serving as the supposed conclusion to a trilogy and potentially his final album. Given the weight of this moment in his career, expectations were naturally high. Sonically, the record delivers exactly what listeners have come to expect from him—a polished, atmospheric blend of R&B, pop, and synth-driven production. It is an enjoyable and easy listen, with multiple tracks destined ... read more
Haha this is what happens when you listen too much Idles. I mean, it is ok, but it’s a Joey Valance/Beastie boys type of situation.
Edit 55 > 84
Haha the album was always good. It is amazing how much your own mood can change the perception of a record. That’s why, first impressions sucks.
And here you are, destroying this fucker but still praising Michael Jackson records. Ha… the irony.
Dated, predictable, and getting some attention only because of extra musical stuff. Sad.
is it a terrible album? Not really, listenable indeed. Actually, Raise the red flag and Sacrifice of the Mass have some nice appeal, but for the most it’s an irrelevant listen. I am almost sure this type of music could be easily created by AI.
Cool mix between Beck and Genesis. “I can’t dance!!! I can’t talk…”. Fun
I love the twist. As people say around here “we are so back!!!” lol. Let’s see the rest of the album tomorrow, but I have to admit I am a bit hyped with the singles… there’s a lot of groove in the air.
Left Alone with NOTHING... NOTHING
If you have listened to The Cure for some years, I am pretty sure that, as myself, you know how to absorb a couple of good dark, sorrowful punches in the face. Well, I would say that despite the years of training, this album shook me to the bone in a way I was not really expecting.
This is a great comeback, PERIOD. It is not a great because it is unusual for a band to release a decent album this late in their careers, or great despite the guys being quite ... read more
Uff, I've been listening this record for a couple of weeks waiting for the initial excitement to wash out... but it does not. This shit is REALLY good.
Eclectic as hell (jazz, salsa, big band, etc), interesting in terms of music progression and structure, and lyrically crazy enough to keeps me fully engaged for a freaking hour.
More often than not, this website praise records that are not that impressive, or innovative, or challenging... this 11 tracks otherwise, are just full well ... read more
As dark as it gets.
People loves to talk about the The Cure dark triogies, being the original one, the one containing Seventeen seconds, Faith and Pornography, and the Robert’s Smith dark trilogy containing Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers.
The truth is Pornography has no other album to be paired with. They were not sounding like this before it and they never sounded as dark as they sounded in Pornography again. Seventeen seconds and Faith were post punk records, ... read more
Musical genius Charly García makes a comeback with his 14th solo studio album, "La Lógica del Escorpión"... and it is complicated to write about it.
Previous album, "Random", was released in 2017, and as it always happens with Garcia albums (at least what has always happened since he is no longer in his prime), it received mixed reviews. Some people loved it (mostly the ones that usually celebrates anything Garcia does) and some other good amount of ... read more
I don't know for sure, but I would guess every place in the world must have some sort of a local Bob Dylan.
Chinoy is perhaps that type of character. Chilean (San Antonio based) singer songwriter, he is far from being an imitator, but it is difficult not to notice he has some things of the early Dylan.
He certainly has a voice close to the young Dylan voice. That type of voices you can love or easily dislike, high pitch, high volume, and A LOT lot of passion in his interpretation. That ... read more
When people use the expression “seminal album” this is the type of record they are talking about.
Perhaps some of you are going to say, “yes but they did not invent shoegaze, that sound was already there, so in what way were they seminal at all?”, and yes I would have to agree with you on that, BUT even when did not create the sound, they for sure defined it, in a way that was so explicit and clear, that if today you don’t know what shoegaze is or how you should ... read more
Don’t believe the hype!!!
I have listened this album four times (quite carefully) and I must say the first listen was the one that impressed me the most. I was in the fifth song and suddenly my brain screamed “when am I going to stop listening the same exhausted fórmula I have been repeatedly listening the last 15 years!?!?!” And it was a VERY fair and reasonable question.
The calculated mix of acoustic instrumentation (piano, strings, etc), electronic beats and ... read more
Interesting record, no question about it.
I have always had some sort of issue to really connect/grab St. Vincent's work. I can't really put my finger on what it is the thing that has always kept me in that weird place where you can notice something is good but not quite enjoy it´s final product.
In that sense, maybe this is the first time I really enjoy one of St Vincent´s album, there are a good chunk of moments in this record I can openly say "ok, I get it". Which ... read more
