Let’s be clear, there was no need to make this album, it is definitely too long and too many songs hit exactly the same key and played the same tricks too many times, and for that reason every piece of disappointment it is clearly justify, but let’s try to move on and see if there is something here to love (at least a tiny bit). Besides that, for a band that have been absolutely lost (in terms of musical direction) and sparkless for at least 15 years (we can disagree in that number ... read more
Just a couple of remarks about this album.
1. Instrumentally speaking it is not revolutionary but is totally on the spot. The most clear example for me is “Different Person”, after minute 2:40 is a whole different song than the one that started the track, full of layers and twists. One of the best of the track list.
2. Narrativewise the album has a lot of great moments, most of them specially dark and hard. “Fingers Of Steel” navigates through very depressing ... read more
Nice opener. Dark, thick and noisy. There is a significant sense of greatness all over this track but I am not completely sure about the "gregorian" type of vocals in the middle (I will keep listening to it).
Anyway, I love the feeling so far, very devoted to their electronic soul, no mix things, no nineties rubbish (I love the nineties rubbish my point is they are not messing with those sounds here) and very very clear in terms of ideas. To this point, both songs have easily ... read more
Some type of really ass kicking mix of Queens Of The Stone Age, Death from Above 1979 and Cassels (which by the way released an incredible record less than a year ago).
I see everybody is liking it and for sure there is a ton of good reasons to do it.
It is always nice to see that some of the old formulas can still make it. I will keep listening to this one.
It worked better during the pandemic.
A couple of interesting things happened with Gorillaz during the pandemic. So interesting indeed that ended up giving us one the best (not the best for sure but pretty high in the list) albums signed by the band. Unfortunately, those things are totally inexistent here. And… maybe, that’s one of the reasons why Cracker Island sounds like a pale cheap copy of its successful brother.
In Song Machine Damon opted for develop his talent mostly ... read more
It has taken me a bit of time to put my head into this "concert", not the I don't love it, but as you could probably noticed it in my "first impressions" (exercise that I usually hate) this album triggers on me a lot of emotions, but I want to try to be fair in the analysis.
Original First Impressions:
First record starts with an instrumental
Second record starts with an instrumental again (briefer than the first one but still there)
Now, this "record" starts ... read more
500 FOLLOWERS REVIEW (big thanks to all of you guys!!!).
This one is the only Bob Dylan album I have never written a single line. There is something too big about it that keeps me always in the back of the room just listening to it without being able to put my words on it. Maybe this is a good opportunity to finally give it a try.
For many many years talking about best Dylan album was a synonym of talking about “Highway 61 Revisited” and perhaps for some bold people it was a ... read more
First place for music evolution.
For the rest a decent album, no question about it. Some interesting ideas, good execution and nice vocals but nothing really new in the game (new for them of course).
Kind of post punk (without really going there as a whole, just listen the last three tracks), kind of poppy (without really being a pop album) and at times still diving into the safe and comfortable shores of pop punk (which is ok, but again, adds nothing).
Sounds to me like they really ... read more
Is it great? Yes it is.
Is it their best? I really don’t know and maybe I am incline to say no.
The “problem” with this album is how stupidly awesome are the first three tracks. I mean WOW.
All the openers are fast, playful and effective as hell. “Rice” is pure Paul Simon “The Rhythm Of The Saints”, “Saw” has its own sharpest side in the lyrics, while in terms of rhythm is a groove masterclass lesson and “Drum” has this ... read more
This is so good.
Year of the Horse was incredible but definitely too much for too many people (playlist culture imo) so, here they are again, this time with a friendly 40 minutes release, ideal for the mass consumption.
The good thing is that these guys are capable to engage you with the same intensity in a 40 or a 90 minutes ride, because they are impressivelly full of soul (which, off topic, is probably the reason why this type of music it is going to be so difficult to be copy for any AI ... read more
Impressive how our childhood can chase us for the rest of our lives.
Rowntree father was a BBC radio engineer (a successful one for what I could understand), his mother otherwise was as brilliant violin player who decided to quit playing when she was asked to perfectly play music as she was some kind of an automatic software whose only purpose was to reproduce notes and melodies... some type of humanless exercise.
These stories are all over Rowntree debut album (cover art, Black Sheep, ... read more
Not an easy one.
It reminded me "The Well Tuned Piano" (which I enjoyed very much), but my impression is that even TWTP has more inflections than this Malone album (and I am saying it in the most respectful way I can).
Sonical landscapes are interesting and intriguing for sure (I think the last adjective is the most appropriate) but the whole trip unfortunately ended being too static to finally build something captivating. With that said, I think its strongest point is to deliver a ... read more
I love these guys and I honestly wish for this new adventure to be a successful one.
Considering their last fifteen years of musical career, maybe this is not the best moment to reimagine their own classics, but what can we do?, they decided to do it now, so, let’s see how it goes.
Unfortunately this first advance is not a good one. There are some good ideas for sure (the instrumental arrangements are beautiful), but the mistakes surpasses the moments of clarity.

Another great album from these guys (couple of brothers from Chile).
There is a lot to have fun here (A LOT). All the songs were translated to Spanish and played in a raw blues type of approach (it is just guitar and drums most of the time). Simple, direct and flawless.
If I have to suggest some of them I would go for “Que Todos Se Paren” (Eddie Cochran “C'mon Everybody”), “ La Quinta Normal” (Freddy Cannon “Palisades Park”) and “Rally X/ ... read more
Great album cover art, but most relevant than that, this album has one of the best (usually overlooked) Bowie songs.
I am talking about "Time". Gigantic, theatrical, with an incredible vocal performance by Ziggy and a larger than life lyrics.
Please go there and check this song. This is just a sample of that amazing narrative:
"You are not a victim, You just scream with boredom, You are not evicting time
Chimes, goddamn, you're looking old, You'll freeze and catch a cold, ... read more
What a great album!
It has been a while without stopping in this one and is easy to forget how awesome it is.
Arrangements were clever and innovative at that time. Songs were catchy and incredible danceable, moods were changing all across the record and the full set songs was literally flying in a second every time you listened to them.
Pure clarity. One for the ages.
Feat phenomena could be tricky.
Iggy has a lot of records were he went into the collaborative route, some of them successful (Post Pop Depression is the obvious example besides the ones with Bowie) and some of them not really great (Skull Ring is one of them). The risk is always the same, to deliver an album with no identity where at the end Iggy is just another guest in his own album.
Fortunately I don't think that's an issue here, I think the album sounds like Iggy, which does not mean is a ... read more
Not what the The Rolling Stones followers are expecting from the band but still a sweet release.
Blues music has been there for the Stones since forever (I mean, the name of the band comes from a Muddy waters song, what else do you want?) so it makes a lot of sense that for the last part of their career if they feel like they want to jam with some of the songs that shapes their own DNA, they can do it, and it sounds believable.
You can notice from the beginning they know what are they doing, ... read more
I remember how pissed off were Silvio Rodriguez die hard fans when this tribute was released. Fortunately time has proved that released this set of song was a great idea in the long run.
There is a lot of respect in the way the Chilean band worked in this songs and many of them are amazing versions (El Necio is by far my favorite one). They took the originals and added some more friendly guitar rock twists on them but it is much better than the typical “Me first And The Gimme ... read more
Not the triumphant closer we were expecting (actually I think nobody was expecting that).
Of course there is going to be a lot of people trashing this album (as always happens with Weezer) but the truth is that without being amazing it is not terrible either.
Some good tracks, fun melodies, catchy instrumental progressions and more than one majestic/operatic/theatrical sequence here and there. Which by the way, Weezer have been doing since.... ¿maybe the red album? (for sure since ... read more
