Very direct and effective mix between Idles, Future Of The Left, Parquet Courts and Death From Above 1979 (with a bit of Sports Team at times). I will keep listening this one for sure.
Let’s see if I change the score in the future.
I was not interested in writing anything about this record, but when I was listening to "Grapejuice" the sensation that this could be a Paul McCartney song was so overwhelming that I had to share it. I mean, come on! I can almost hear sir Paul singing that tune.
This is not a bad record at all, it is quite fun, most of the time catchy and it works very well in a "song level". The problem of this album is that it is all over the places. It is easy to understand/relate with ... read more
If you don’t Know about Black Sabbath this is the record to start listening to them.
If you are curious about why people call Black Sabbath the fathers of metal, this (and maybe the previous one) is the record to understand why they do it.
Eight incredible songs (three of them being part of the most well known metal songs ever), most of them (6/8) avoiding the verse/chorus/verse formula, massive riffs, effective drum fills (and a whole song that basically is there to clarify you what is ... read more
I don't have much to say about the record but it is my rating number 666, so what other album can I rate?
Just to bring some memories, there was a time when this music was considered "heavy" and of course my poor mother was horrified by me listening to this satanic music. Which makes me remember one more time how important it is to try to understand (and appreciate) music in its context/time and not looking at them with contemporary ears.
Nowadays I can say that I am still able to ... read more
Hahaha I don’t know, I think Muse have been taking this way for so long at this point (the road that clearly says “we don’t give a fuck what you think”) that it is almost kind of fun to hear them.
This song is such a bag of cats of different influences, something like Matt Bellamy disguise as Billie Joe Armstrong, hanging out with Justin Hawkins to play in a Muse/Marilyn Manson tribute band. But the best part of it, is that the song is stupidly catchy and disposable in ... read more

Best Beastie Boys album?
I know many people usually points at Ill Communication as their best work (and for sure there is no need to choose "the best one" but it is a fun exercise to do) which is a marvelous record, no question about it, but when you listen Hello Nasty you can see where the band made some improvements.
Probably the most obvious point is the inclusion of Mix Master Mike in the scratch which could sounds like ... read more
Ok, let’s see.
Is it an incredible return (easy question)?: No, it is not
Is it a terrible return (not so easy question)?: No, it is not.
As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Where in the middle, that’s up to each one of us, but let’s try to analyze what they released.
Incredible more energetic and straightforward than Hymns. In terms of sound, Clearly pointing to their more early era, very reminding of Silent Alarm or A Weekend In The City. And let’s agree ... read more
Huge return from the spaceman.
It is interesting what happens with Spiritualized. It has been 30 years since he started with the project, putting in some way a line between the early work of Spacemen 3 and what he was about to start with his new band. It is not that you can’t see the elements of Spiritualized in Spacemen 3 music (actually they are not hard to find), but in some way Pierce decided to take away a bit of the heavy psych identity, reinforce some of the gospel nature he has in ... read more
Challenging record and I can’t avoid to have a bag of mixed feelings about it.
FJM last two releases even with big differences between them pointed to reinforce the main concept behind the artist, big an innovative music exploration with a unique lyricism, sardonic, reflexive and thought provoking.
With this album I honestly don’t know where are we going. Lyricism is there for sure, Tillman knows perfectly how to tell a story and we know he is extremely clever in doing that in a ... read more
Keeps growing!
Maybe I will write a proper review in a couple of weeks.
For now a couple of thoughts:
1. What an amazing lyricist is Adrianne Lenker. Hats Off, Dylan quality stuff here.
2. Percussions in this record are incredible, hitting hard and taking all the spaces when they should (as in Time Scapping for example), but most of the time being extremely respectful of the silences. Beautiful
3. Twenty song and never gets boring. They go from classic folk to country, to experimental, psych ... read more
The kind of tribute album every musician deserves.
This is not a dark homage to the great Johnny Winter (Edgars big brother), this is a blues celebration dedicated to a man that breathed blues until the very last of his days (which by the way happened 8 years ago).
Edgar manage himself to create a record that even when it is a parade of big names, it is also an album with a concise identity and as I already said, incredible fun from track 1 to track 16.
The tracklist includes blues classics ... read more
First impressions:
Jack White with no questions is one of the music genius of his generation, he has an incredible unique musical signature which is one of his gifts but also one of his big problems.
Fortunately in this album he manage himself to scape from the stereotype and he added a good amount of experimentation and fusion to his offer. Nothing extremely innovative for sure, but good enough to shake his universe (Death From Above and even Ty Segall have been doing things on the same line ... read more
I don’t know guys.
I understand the hype, Frusciante is a big thing, as a group they have created really nice records but don’t fool yourself there is not much to go crazy about it.
It is not a bad record but is far from being amazing. Track list is incredible lifeless for looooong passages. Yes, Flea bass guitar is still groovy, Kiedis vocals are incredible good (pleasantly surprising I must say), Chad drums seems to be less intense (He was a thunder in the past) than in his ... read more
Long awaited record. Nine years of silence it is not a small thing. The obvious question was, how this “two piece” pandemic Placebo incarnation is going to sound?.
Of course we had a hint of it with the singles which were very promising indeed.
Sonically the album kind of reminds the Sleeping with Ghosts and Meds era, which at least for me is a very nice thing. Beautiful James chorus is undeniably linked to that period. Not groundbreaking for sure, but very good news for a band ... read more
Hahaha ok “Shakespeare makes me happy, Shakespeare makes me happy”. Don’t take yourself so seriously guys, that song is just a joke, it is a spring EP, is supposed to be fun and harmless and even when I do agree regarding how disposable this set of songs is, I also think that for example “A little bit of love” is kind of “lovable” too.
Same for the rest of the songs, cheesy and poppy as hell but definitely harmless. Probably the biggest problem this ... read more
I have sympathy for Eddie, and I have to admit at least to my ears this is a harmless record, nobody should feel offended or angry (not even those that use to hate anything that comes from the 90s) with this extremely simple set of songs. Actually the álbum has a couple of nice and very enjoyable moments. I mean the trilogy that stars with Good & Evil and the song with Sir Elton John are not bad at all. And let’s admit it, most of the time, the guy knows how to write a decent ... read more
Edit: Lets keep digging in this awesome album
After weeks listening to this record (and falling in love with it) I have the impression that the real trick here is what they do with the drums. It is not that the rest of them are irrelevant, not at all, they are actually great but the drums are impeccable. And be careful, it is not about how ponderous are the drums, it is about how they choose to put the drums, there are multiple times during this album where you are not going to listen any ... read more
Straightforward and effective. It is a joy to see how confident he sounds in this release and it is honestly impossible not to get immerse in the amazing mood that runs though every single song in this record.
As most of the people I am part of the tribe that basically enjoys his early albums and maybe because in this one he sounded a lot like in his early works, is the reason why many of us are definitely going to enjoy this release. Do not skip this one people!
