i was beginning to think Squid had created their own genre cuz i can't describe the music i just listened to
these sounds of unknown creatures, layering, progressiveness, instrumental blending with vocals and at the same time glitchy yet dreamy synthesizers creating the most atmospheric album Squid has ever released

"@tistan comparing this to slayyyter doesn't automatically prove a lack of ambition either. genres are built on shared aesthetics. you could apply the exact same logic to synthpop, shoegaze, rage, jersey club, literally anything. similarity alone is not proof of creative bankruptcy. also, burnout doesn't automatically mean the music is objectively getting worse. sometimes it just means you’ve consumed too much of the same style in a short period of time. that’s a listener-side issue as much as an artist's-side one. know the difference"

"@tistan this isn't really criticism, it’s more of an emotional rant. you keep saying "everything sounds the same" "0 ambition" "no evolution" but you never actually explain what you mean by that. which albums are copying each other? what specific trends or production choices are becoming repetitive? what would "evolution" even look like to you? also reducing an entire scene to "slopfest" just bc most releases didn’t personally connect with you says more about your current burnout with the genre than it does about the actual state of the music."
