its sounds good, but i find it quite predictable and not terribly unique
not a big fan of the choral stuff, but the organ is amazing as usual for malone and the brass is also pretty great too
comparisons to Paramore are quite obvious; its kinda like a noisier imagining of "This Is Why". i found the lyrics repetitive and a little boring, but i found the textures and guitar work on here to be great most of the time.
overall a good way to start the year! highlights are the 4th, 6th and 8th tracks.
i really expected to enjoy this album but i found it quite boring. the tracks sound nice but have no sense of progression at all. this is the same man that had a large part in composing the excellent ambient pieces on david bowie's low and heroes.
eno said ambient music "must be as ignorable as it is interesting", he nailed the ignorable part, this would be great as background music, but i feel like he forgot the interesting part.
irritating vocal performances and lyrics which i can only assume are intentionally cringeworthy, over some occasionally interesting industrial pop beats.
its good. its unfortunate that this album was sandwiched between 2 of swans's most acclaimed albums in their discography
the highs are higher than white light but unfortunately the lows are a little lower.
never thought i would describe a swans album as "lovely" but here we are.
obviously what this album represents in terms of major labels and creative suppression leaves a sour taste, but purely focusing on the music, this is actually really great.
first time ive actually enjoyed harsh noise. influences from other more accessible genres like death metal make this a more "pleasant" experience than other harsh noise projects such as pulse demon, although its hard to use words like "pleasant" or "enjoyable" to describe something so vicious, raw and aggressive as this album.
brilliant album in every sense of the word. some of the catchiest and most fun tracks ive ever heard! will definitely be listening to more from these guys.
ive never been so polarised between loving instrumentals and hating vocals on an album before
