While initially so odd it was off-putting I have grown to love this project, its eccentricity makes it probably the most fun I have ever had with a pop album (if you could even call it that). The vocals are constantly changing pitches and the instrumentals can be very, very clunky and jarring yet somehow I feel like I can relate to this mess of sounds
The original music is incredible but I think these covers do nothing but elevate it.
Frank's immature lyrics stop me from enjoying this, whilst they don't offend me I just don't wanna hear about it hurting when you pee etc.
While experimentation is low on this album all the tracks are these hyper-aggressive black metal bangers and each of the interludes/ untitled tracks really gives the listener time to breathe before getting pummeled again. Definitely a highlight from this album is the amazing vocals that do nothing but add to the experience of the listen.
Mayhem surprisingly doesn't just have classic status just because of their band antics but also because they made some damn good black metal.
It took me a while to fully realize how damn amazing this album is, it mixes fairly complex and cacophonous compositions with some of the best black metal I have heard this year. I hope to see more from this contemporary classical black metal combination in the future.
Some may say this is artsy bs and I kinda agree but on the other hand, I really love how weird it is
While it is musically lacklustre the atmosphere that comes with it is kinda terrifying.
5/100 for musical ability but + 20 for the terrifying atmosphere.
A lot of interesting ideas are present but many of them aren't quite pulled off well. Overall I feel like it flows well as an album though and the production is fairly consistent and most of the time a track is hindered it is because of the vocals
While this project has a lot of great qualities her voice really shines through as the strongest part
One of the easiest 100's ever. The emotion in the playing and the amazing, cacophonous climaxes cement this as one of the best post-rock albums of all time.
Don't get me wrong a lot of this is very solid abstract hip hop but I don't really see what's so special about this.
To say I'm biased is preposterous and frankly offending
This album is made by wonderful people and all of the music on it is very good. The genres hop all over the place, but somehow its actually got an excellent flow, and nothing feels out of place like it would on a regular comp.
85/100
