Released 8 years after their sophomore album, Third Stage is one of those albums that makes you think, why did they came back in the first place? I have never heard the "bad" Boston albums, so I decided to go back and listen to them. Third Stage, their first with MCA after the legal fight with Epic, went 4 X Platinum and had two top 10 singles, so "bad" here is all relative I guess. the first two tracks, "Amanda" and "We're Ready" serve as both epilogue to their previous work and prologue to this album but it becomes clear that they are leftovers that were re-heated for radio airplay. also, they ... read more
It is a decent listen and serves as a fine conclusion to their ''good'' run, but the band is clearly losing steam here. It is a good album, but it definitely does not reach the heights of their incredible debut. This record is the sound of a perfectionist spending way too much time in the laboratory.
AOR drained of energy, lacking any memorable moments, inoffensive, and plodding. “Amanda” is alright. Just like wow. Weak sauce cheese music.
yeah honestly extremely good but i don't know about, i feel like the middle gets a bit more forgettable, also fun fact Cool The Engines is my least favorite song on this album
