Hooligans proves that this onetime background player makes a pretty solid first banana.
For his own album, Mars has saved up a bundle of top-drawer melodies, making commercial success all but a certainty. What makes this a really exciting debut, however, is the Kanye West-style genre-bending on Grenade, The Other Side and Our First Time.
As it is, Doo-Wops & Hooligans is an uneven debut that shows why Mars is likeable and popular, but doesn’t tap into his full potential as a writer or producer.
An album that seeks too hard to display Mars' multifaceted talents.
More hit than miss from chart-busting Smeezington.
One must admit that legitimacy won’t come into the equation of Doo-Wop’s sales, which should be colossal given Mars’ current run of form.
Doo-Wops & Hooligans kicks up no fuss, and shortchanges on its promise of both doo-wop and hooliganism.
Sure the album has the opportunity to be successful, chameleons routinely do well, but make no mistake about it, Doo Wops & Hooligans is a debut that Bruno Mars will one day could look back on to regret.
Ok but this man needs better album titles
Review:
Ok but this is not really Bruno Mars. I mean it's a debut record so i can't blame him but at this point in his career he just isn't there yet. The songwriting is unimpessive, the topics are generally weak, and most of it's just kind of pop. After looking at the tracklist i was like "wait i know most of these this might be fire" but none of them were as good as i remember. Like right after "Marry You" all the tracks slap

Even though I didn't know this album before and never listened to it in its entirety, I do know the individual popular songs, and I feel that revisiting them is a bit nostalgic. If you're not a fan of reggae, you definitely won't like this album. It's filled with it almost everywhere, but mostly pop. I associate these popular songs with some cover versions from commercials or maybe even remixes, where I've seen most of them before. The ones I haven't heard were ... read more
Everyone knows at least seven on the songs on here. That’s probably why I only gave it a six. I’ve hear those seven songs so many times growing up that I never wanna hear them again. They’re not bad but I’m honestly sick of hearing them. Despite that this is a massive pop album and I’ll give it credit for that. Grenade isn’t as good as I remember it being. The instrumental is kind of boring. Same goes for Runaway Baby and Marry You. These three songs are ... read more
It’s really hard to find a good spot where this album is at. All of these songs here are hits. Banger after banger basically. So hopefully, I found a rank that satisfies me for now while also making a dumb 69 joke as well since I don’t have a rating like that yet.
i hope they play this album at my funeral so some people can be happy watching me being buried|
