a while ago, my friend described midwest emo as jazz for sad suburban white boys. and this album takes that description to the next level. this album is a combination of midwestern emo and jazz which might sound like a disaster but it’s actually a pretty cool sound. really from has a male and a female vocalist and the female vocalist is faaaaaar better. along with some of the song not being memorable enough, the album’s biggest flaw is the male vocalist. his vocals just feel very ... read more
I think there are some duds here but overall, this album is pretty awesome. Loving the combination of styles here and the beautiful horns. I think the vocals get a little annoying but for the most part, I am absolutely in love with the instrumentation. ESPECIALLY on songs like "Apartment Song", "Quirk" and "I'm From Here". Can't wait to hear these guys expand on their sound. More songs like the opener would make for a banger album, it was breathtaking honestly. ... read more
This is one of the most beautiful records I've heard this year. It's produced with so much love and has this irresistable atmosphere. Despite being focused, it always introduces something new to keep you listening. There are some genre switch ups, but they don't rely on that to impress you.
My only complaint is that the last track is a bit of a dud.
Bookended by its worst songs, this jazz-rock/midwestern emo fusion is an absolute trip and well worth the mere 34 minutes it takes, end to end. (Tip: hack off the end-pieces and its c.25 mins...)

Though I actually do dig the implementation of a lot of horns/jazz elements here, I didn’t so much dig the lack of many enticing grooves and riffs. The vocals ranged from pretty great to dull/uninspired. Decent overall
I went into this project knowing only that it had Midwest Emo influences, which caused the intro track to be really confusing for me to start with, but I must say, it set a cool scene and the rest of this LP was fantastic to listen to. "Quirk", "Yellow Fever", "Try Lingual" and "I Live Here Now" were really cool to listen to back to back as they all dive deeper into Midwest Emo with the subtle jazz influences, which is my favorite sound of this record.
