The final album of the Chris Barnes era, The Bleeding continues the trajectory Cannibal Corpse had established during their early-'90s heyday, that being a progressively over-the-top approach to gore-themed death metal that pushed the envelope in every imaginable way, from cover art to song titles to the music itself.

'Vile' is the final Cannibal Corpse album with Chris Barnes as the gruffy vocalist. On their previous album 'Tomb Of The Mutilated', the problem I had was how difficult it was to even understand what Chris was growling. (probably for the best for some listeners, as it has some of the most fucked up lyrics imaginable) Cannibal Corpse's motto was to produce the goriest and the most violent music as humanly possible, which I believe they far succeeded at. This is a classic but definitely my least favorite of the early era, you can tell Barnes is beginning to lose it and the production isn't my favorite, it's a little loose and less heavy on the low end.

They seem to be getting better with every album, however I still have one criticism. Look, I appreciate Cannibal Corpse and alot of other metal bands around this era for being edgy, violent and crass, and I'm not really offended because it's 90's death metal, what do you expect? But can you seriously not write about anything else than killing and raping women?

Heavy, nasty, vile everything cannibal corpse aim to achieve is perfectly demonstrated here, would have been interesting to see what the future would have held if Chris Barnes remained vocalist. However, with hindsight a clear decline in his vocal capabilities is clear on this album, despite this it adds to the nasty grimy sound of this album

Feel it really shines in the second half.
