AllMusic
The album is not the flawless statement against complacency the band seemed to strive for, but it succeeds at tearing heads off, shooting fascists, and quickly asking questions later with unbelievable fury. For these reasons alone, it easily serves as one of the band's highest marks.

NME
The angriest, least compromised, most utterly justified pop record in years.

Entertainment Weekly
Primal Scream’s journey across an unpredictable sonic terrain makes them the U.K.’s most adventurous pop band-turned-white-noise addicts.
81
Pitchfork
Their new political agenda digests much easier than bands like Rage Against the Machine who market their entire career off such stances. In the end, Primal Scream understood that under all of the rants there has to lie a steady throb of rump-shaking war.

Rolling Stone
Somehow, the Primals' fury never seems misguided: This is one ball of aggression that hangs together, thanks to the band's smarts and funk.

Alternative Press

Think of Exterminator as a Baskin-Robbins shop that makes 31 flavors of amphetamine sulfate instead of ice cream: each flavor's totally wired and totally tasty.

The Telegraph
Pitch-dark and downright scary hits you first. But after those acid-burnt landscapes, dank, derelict flats and relentless night-time trains, lullaby Primal smooches in. Have a go - if you think you're hard enough.

Q Magazine

A darkly uncompromising and often difficult record: uneasy, sinister, scored and scarred with sonic detritus and, in layman’s terms, a bloody racket.

The Independent
Great as it is in parts, overall this is a patchwork rather than a vision.

XTRMNTR is one of the most appropriate album titles, as the pure intensity of these ruthless and murderous beats feel as though you’re well and truly being put through your paces.

Standout: Accelerator
Favs: Kill all Hippies, MBV Arkestra, Blood money, Swastika Eyes (both mixes)
Least fav: Pills

On the 6th studio album, Primal Scream manages to heighten my senses, remind me of the Madchester days of insanity, and add one more invigorating band to my every growing Hyper AF playlist. There is so much going on in every track that I genuinely can't decide how to describe 'XTRMNTR.' The opening track got me in trouble when I played it for a group of Rainbow Children on Kauai and Moon Dolphin called me a menace. The cover art reminds me of Front 242, while the style reminds me of the ... read more

What a beautiful blend of Alternative Dance, Electronic and Rock with other influences ranging form Noise Rock, Electro-Industrial and Neo-Psychedelia for this noisy angry in your face release which is as nihilistic and politically charged Primal Scream has even been. Music for the rebellious.

Fun fact! I actually didn't care for this AT ALL when I first gave it a listen. Maybe it was the crazy hype this thing got on the RYM reviews, but it didn't really click with me instantly and I initially gave this album a 6/10. But then something really weird happened. The songs that did click with me on first instance started getting heavy rotation from me, which made me revisit the rest of the tracklist, and then those other songs clicked with me too. This slowly went from a decent ... read more
