Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
90

Ants From Up There is a sophomore album that refines Black Country, New Road's skills. This effort, for the entire duration, has the collective honing in on their intimacy and dynamics with one another. Thus giving the record a bittersweet encapsulation with Isaac's departure from the group.

Nico - The Marble Index
80

The Marble Index pulls an exciting array of sounds unlike many other projects of this time. Convincing me that it is plucking at my brain constrained in a medieval chamber. There is such an unnerving and peculiar essence to this record. Completely enamored.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon
80

Pink Moon is a gentle record that makes its entrance as brief as its exit. Influence sprouts abundantly from Drake's soothing writing. Artists such as Elliot Smith, Boris, or Radiohead clearly took inspiration and spread his music across further generations. Giving it a sort of alive feel, even though he may be gone. Truly wonderful.

Heartworms - Glutton for Punishment
60

While Glutton for Punishment incorporates some elements of gothic rock and darkwave, it never quite feels as though it fully embodies the aforementioned genres. The work comes off more as a modern rock record with tints of goth and new wave. For what it is, the album is distinctive and enjoyable. It's just not as "groundbreaking" as others make it out to be.

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper
60

Quadeca has brought substantial growth compared to where he began. Joining folk and hip-hop onto one album is laudable, even if it seems bizarre at first. Although, Vanisher, Horizon Scraper's peaks are middled out by its fair share of wavering tracks. It often struggles with being too inviting, to the point it's boring, or straying so far that it could be separate projects. Versatility creates a refined experience when implemented well. Unfortunately, that is not exactly the ... read more

Red House Painters - Red House Painters (Rollercoaster)
80

Red House Painters bring forth a truly innovative sound for the slowcore landscape. They shed light on an expansive folk experience akin to, yet before, Phil Elverum's The Microphones. This record has an auditory dichotomy that encompasses the dreamlike state of shoegaze and, at times, the heavier elements of post-rock. Something I have come to cherish.
