whose mans is this?

STWO - D.T.S.N.T.

Just too similar to every other sound-cloud dj. Even the features feel half-asleep, despite being the most tasteful part of this EP (Caesar, A.Chal & BBNG on one EP is enough to make anyone give these tracks a couple spins) but overall very uninspiring. You're better off looking to Stwo's future and past-mixtapes instead of this.

Incubus - If Not Now, When?
65

Out of sight, out of mind

Drake & Future - What a Time to Be Alive
67

Some songs are so objectively better than others, its a navigation through the shit and the gems.

Favorites: Diamonds Dancing, Plastic Bag, Big Rings

Overall much like Watch The Throne, this album lacks an identity, this duality leads to scatterbrained ideas, unfinished concepts, what are half these songs about? There are some beautiful moments which can be found "doing me dirty" but that's just a testament to the artists involved and less about the songs in question, miss me on this

Lil Wayne & DJ Drama - Dedication 6
75

Oh lord, dedication 666, Lil Wayne goes bar for bar for bar. This is by far, by far the best I've seen him in the last 5 years. By the quality of this I'm actually interested in the mystical Carter V.

First Listen:
1. Fly Away(DNA) - 2/10
2. Everyday We Sick - 6/10
3. Boyz 2 Menace - 7/10 (Lil Wayne bodied this my god; the rest is pretty average)
4. Eureaka - 2/10 (very poor, though there are some memorable bars)
5. 5 Star(Rockstar) - ... read more

Editors - In Dream
85

This might as well be a new band, that's how I approached this album, no real expectations and knowing it wouldn't sound like previous iterations. It's a culture shock, they've traded in their dark tones for a much more synth-based band despite their lead synth player leaving the band.

Because of this, we have seen Tom Smith(lead vocals) change the pitch of his voice dramatically. It is a testament to this mans vocal capabilities, I've never heard of someone with such a dark baritone being ... read more

The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
73

I still have no clue how I feel about this band. I enjoy the vocals and I enjoy the instrumentation, so its a head scratching moment truly.

I think it may be the "pop" melodies which are scattered across this album, even though the guitars are always doing this beautifully intricate work, something, often the drums or xylophones(electronic pianos etc) add this weird bubble gum sound, which contradicts everything I expect and enjoy from this band, I mean look at that album cover, look ... read more

Rafael Anton Irisarri - The Shameless Years
83

What a year its been in the world of Mr. Irisarri, I hadn't realized that he had released this as well, along with La Equidistancia & Thesis 10(with Julianna Barwick) Rafael Anton Irisarri is truly the best thing to come out of ambient music this year, and that is no small feat in a genre as vast and unflinching as ambient music, where every soundbit crafted and made to glitch onto another, there is no clearer example of how brillant ambient music can be than with Rafael Anton Irisarri

Shane Eagle - Yellow
61

I'm originally from South Africa, so I present this as imo the best iteration of South Africa's newest hip-hop talent. It's worth a listen for those looking to see what's going on in SA from a 21 year old, mr.self re-leased.

Favorites: Need Me, On My Own, Winter

JAY-Z - 4:44
70

Slowly realizing that this is the best artistic choice Jay could have made, any other avenue of rap would have fitted him poorly, and with the grandeur stripped away from Magna Carta, this is truly the best form of Jay we could have received, that being said, its just not that interesting of a story anymore.

I do think that there is a discord between the beautiful instrumentation and Jay Z's new flow. Both are beautiful and well executed, great samples on No.ID's part and Jay Z's raps are ... read more

NxWorries - Link Up

Link Up & Suede remain my favorites in the Nxworries discography

Lil Wayne - Bank Account
NR

A reminder of how much the new wave live off of Lil Wayne's sound and cadence.
Ironically he does this on pre-exisiting beats, if only to show them how its done.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden of Delete
88

The second half of this album is OPN at his most intricately visceral, I bite through it is the type of soundtrack I'd like my nightmares to have playing, the animals music-video goes with the drowsiness that comes before.

The Haxan Cloak - Excavation
78

Miste four years down the line, still an amazing piece

Maryam Saleh, Maurice Louca & Tamer Abu Ghazaleh - الإخفاء [Lekhfa]
77

This form of music is one that hardly ever interests me, and with lyrics in what I assume is Arabic, I don't get much lyrical substance from this album but with all those odds, this album is so well crafted that I still find myself immensely enjoying this album.

Definitely a hidden gem!

Huncho Jack - Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho

Expected a great deal more from Travis Scott, this is about what I expected from Quavo though without a doubt; This is awful

Bombay Bicycle Club - So Long, See You Tomorrow

Favourites: Home by Now & Eyes off You

Eluvium - Shuffle Drones

Eluvium continues to silently create one of the most consistent bodies of work in the genre of drone and ambient.

Justin Walter - Unseen Forces

A stand out in the world of ambient-cy, and in a genre which prides itself on hushed epiphanies its a hard thing being a stand out in a library full of great hushing ambient works,I say its the trumpets ^^,

"Yeah getting rid of that, of course that was said before he moved on. It was a huge departure from his sound and definitely not hip-hop but his next release would show it was so much more."

"@Audiohype 6 years late on this response but I believe it was Trent Reznor who talking about it, and it did affect the exposure! At the time he (Trent) was a part of the Apple Music team so he would know, it did play a part then, probably not anymore!"
On Jay-Z & Linkin Park - Collision Course
"Hey hey, not quite, I don't think. Though Turnstile & BADBADNOTGOOD's EP "New Heart Designs" definitely had something there but less hip-hop and more Jazz fusion or HEALTH's "DISCO4 :: PART II" which definitely got there on certain tracks."

On Jooyoung - Be
"Agree 100% I think it has to do with their vocal performances both artists do the sing-talking thing in their verses, punctuate their songs with falsetto’s and love to stack manipulated vocals a top one another!"
On The Killers - Hot Fuss
"Yeah that’s the point, let me be less succinct, there was a very real push for indie rock to be the next great effector of sound, best seen/known with the Pitchfork-core tag. The reverse of this is that bands with more a traditional rock sound ended up being lampooned despite releasing their most noteworthy records in this time while let’s say in 2005 (when this DEBUT album came out) Franz Ferdinand, Animal Collective, modest mouse, Iron and wine, THE VERVE, feist all got glowing reviews in jarring contrast to this record. There was a deliberate and unnatural critic bombing for albums like this. Not to say that like The Funeral isn’t a wonderful record just that for this debut record to get spitroasted by critics was alarmingly disproportionate to other indie rock record receptions."

""In Search Of" by NERD? if yes then of course! And "The Grey Album" is the reason this record was made so definitely aware and consider those better records that preceded this album. My sentiment is towards the critical reception of this album despite how brilliant and influential it was: It's a record that was a HUGE gateway for hip-hop kids to listen to rock and for rock kids to listen to hip-hop far bigger than the records you mentioned but it isn't acknowledged as such. You really have to look no further than Numb/Encore to understand that."
