i’m cursed to only listen to frontloaded albums i guess. this lowkey is not.. very good. first 3 songs are a phenomenal example of how to write catchy music, but GOD the rest of this is a slog. the alt metal attempts on here are esp glaring.
FAV TRACK: Strummer

riff of stocktaking reminds me of cygnus vismund cygnus
more driven by theatricality than emotion
vocal delivery reminds me of maynard james keenan
very dynamic, possibly the least repetitive post hardcore album i’ve heard so far - riffs still repetitive
vocals are the worst part of this - very much reminiscent of straight up hardcore while the instrumental is more mathy and progressive
female vocals are interesting and a valued edition
bass tone really great - almost sounds ... read more

i’m just a little bit disappointed by this. it stands firmly in the middle of unwound’s discography (which i have so highly rated any criticism i have of the band just goes to show how good they are). i went into this expecting something grandiose, but it was the opposite. laid back, lethargic songs that went nowhere. i now realize that that was kind of the purpose of this album. what i picked up from reading about this album was that t was the band moving away form post ... read more

i said this last time. this is the worst unwound record i've heard, but not by much. it's experimental but in a way taht doesnt feel polished in the way that the band has been the past few records. this feels like they were gearing up for what would come (leaves turn inside you) which i will be listening to last. the tacks Data and Side Effects Of Being Tired stand out, data being what unwound does best, and side effects of being tired being a huge experimental triumph on the ... read more

their worst (so far.) a testament to the band's consistency. every song is killer, although there's something about it, maybe the mix, that brings it down. oh, and the many minutes of drone tacked on at the end that don't do an effective job at closing out the album.
FAV TRACK: Demolished
edit: not their worst. incredibly consistent and the atmosphere on the final REAL track, swan, is unmatched

real great album from the folks over at unwound. certainly very consistent- the repetition doesn’t work as strongly in it’s favor as on the aptly titled “Repetition”, still phenomenal

bangers. less consistent than the other sheena albums but this is gas

love this. a lil dated but just so full of energy it’s hard not to love.

obviously, i don't think this is as good as the full length album iano released also this year. while it doesnt reach taht same level of quality, it still serves an important purpose in their discography. while What We Will See was sort of like a romp in the woods, this feels like a frigid winter day overlooking a lake. the final song is spring comin g in. incredible.
FAV TRACK: It's Always Here

it’s pretty easy to compare this to artists like ichiko aoba but i feel this artist brings something at least a bit unique to the table. this project brings something unique that i believe is cultural melodically to the table, and that makes this a very distinct project. the title track is life changing.
FAV TRACK: Title track

the best (and only) vocaloid record i've heard. some of the best pop / rock songwriting and melodies i've ever heard. the sound is a little bit overdone at some points but god this is great. especially love the back half of this- the guitar solos and such are out of this world.
FAV TRACK: Oyasumination

punishing. the whole album is relentless and when it more or less slows down on the back half with phoenix in flight and the title track, the quality only goes up. there are lots of moments on this album that feel almost too overwhelming and don’t give much room to breathe, and yet there’s something about this that’s at least somewhat welcoming.
FAV TRACK: Phoenix In Flight

good, yet mega one note. i like how dynamic the vocals are but it feels like each song is a rehash of the last. this is the same as asunojokei's recent album except that felt more triumphnat. this is desolate.
FAV TRACK: Your Shoes and the World to Come

fucking rips. this gave me a headache in the most delicious way possible. every song on here goes unbelievably hard, but there are some highlights.

virtually flawless album but for that reason it doesn’t stick with me. it’s great, it’s phenomenal, it’s near perfect even, but it leaves me with nearly nothing. there are great tracks, KC Accidental, Cause = Time, and Anthems For a 17 Year Old Girl are all GREAT tracks. it’s just the rest of the album has the same level of catchiness, hookiness and whatever that it feels like one big song and honestly i’m not a fan of it blending ... read more
